RIver Kwai + Mr. Smith

I guess I'm too dense . . . what message are we viewers supposed to get from the long clips of Bridge Over the River Kwai and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington?

reply

Those scenes highlighted the depth of Reggie's empathic connection to humans and thus the poignancy of his failure to fully bond with Jesse. Joe's subtly nuanced performances are a huge part of what makes these movies so richly complex and good.

Perhaps Reggie hopes Jesse won't, like Nicholson, descend into "madness".

Joe is an amazingly talented and obviously outstandingly well-trained canine performer. A wonderful and close to unique casting IMO.

I guess it was filler although the director thought he was being clever. The audience realised that there are better classic films out there than watching this dross.

Its that man again!!

reply

I don't think there is any message in there. Just that Jesse likes old movies. He has referenced old movies before in the series. Including 'River Kwai' in an earlier movie.
