Not to be confused with 500 Days of Summer
I confess I fell for the tag "from the studio that brought you 500 Days of Summer" and I decided to check the trailer out, but after seeing it loaded with cliché after cliché, it has really put me off from ever watching it. It simply boggles my mind how the studio is trying to sell this movie to the same audience who liked 500 Days of Summer, when it clearly has more in common with generic romantic comedies.
"500 Days of Summer" was a hit because it resonated with audiences -in particular, straight males in their 20s/30s- that normally don't like romantic comedies. It was an atypical story in which the guy is the one who fell in love and got his heart broken, which is why it connected with them so well, including myself.
That said, the story of this movie does not seem to be bring anything new to the table, and it may work well with women who like "Sex and The City" or the standard romantic comedy. I have no doubt that the actors and filmmakers gave it their best, but I am surprised that Fox actually produced an independent film with such a trite story and is trying to market it as something new and refreshing (like "500 Days of Summer") when many other mainstream, big studio romantic comedies have effective covered this subject before.
