Give your thoughts on the 5th episode.

Yes, I am going to do this for every single episode of the show. And of course wait until the episode premieres tonight.

One of the best episodes ever!!! Easily the best racing sequence I seen on tv! Hot Wheel Battleforce 5 can't touch that!

About halfway through the race I just went "You know what? I don't care if there's a single cell of animation dedicated to giant robots in this episode, just give me more of this"

And honestly, the monster showing up during the last two minutes just felt forced because of it, but I'm definitely not complaining overall.

I also loved all the driving and was actually kind of surprised a monster showed up at all. It made the last race so good.

What's with the show trying so hard to make high school girls look attractive? I hope it doesn't try to be too much like certain anime. lol Anyway, I loved that first race so much. GT never disappoints. I thought Lance was going to lose badly and have that as his motivation to get a license but apparently his reckless driving was good enough. heh heh I was wondering why there was so much driving in that episode then I realized it was about the car which I think will become their main transportation. I also expect Ilana to make it look better, like she implied.

What's with Octus eating....period.

That monster fight was so brutal. I instantly thought about GT's Powerpuff Girls days. Interesting how there was no Titan form animation. It seems like Titan is getting pushed further down the episodes' run time. I also found it interesting that there was no Medulla and Steel and Solomon have been MIA for a couple of episodes now.

Did anyone think that Lance's stance was...wrong. He was bent way too forward.

Last, next episode's preview was so mesmerizing. I was actually wondering if I was watching a preview for some movie for the show or a preview for a set of episodes because so much happened. My eyes are still trying to registered all that went on in that short period of time.

Also, I don't know why but I found Illana's sudden entrance to say "Don't drink the milk it expired yesterday" and disappearance just as rapid to be mind numbingly hilarious.

Yes, I kinda felt the monster battle was unneeded because I was so into the racing. But thats just alittle nitpick!

And the funniest scene of the series so far IS Illana just suddenly appearing and saying "Don't drink the milk it expired yesterday" and then just leaving! WTF?! I was dumbfounded like Lance for a good couple of mins!

Nice breakdown.

I like that Octus took an interest in flavors and eating. It's arguable whether it's anachronistic for a robot to do such a thing, but I'm just tired of seeing robots/androids who don't show much curiosity about food simply because they don't require nourishment.

On to the episode in general: I feel fairly confident that I've picked up on how SBT is laid out. For the most part, things are working on two different levels -- 1)The main characters, plot, and aesthetics reference super robot anime 2)The setting of Earth and it's inhabitants oftentimes reference modern TV tropes.
Examples of the latter include the neighbor lady who is a "cougar", the shady police detective, the piss 'n vinegar army general, the asian guy into drifting, and (to some of our chagrin) slutty high school girls. Typically, though, the TV tropes are presented behind the more prevalent super robot influences...

That wasn't the case with this episode. Like Deathstroke points out, in Ep.5 almost all of the anime/scifi stuff we're used to is either not included at all or is shown very little and just at the end. I wouldn't presume to judge what constitutes as a successful episode of Sym-Bionic Titan (GT is probably the only person with that right), but this one felt out of place. It did very little for character development and absolutely nothing to advance the plot.

It wasn't bad, mind you. The races were exciting and the sound production alone was phenomenal. Also, it was a stroke of genius to transform a mundane driver's test into an action set piece!

Nevertheless, this doesn't change the fact that I personally watch SBT for the waves of nostalgia produced by all of the super robot homages. Change is always good but I could do without SBT pandering this much to teens in western culture.

It was a good episode. Probobly the funniest one yet especially when Lance said; "It's so primitive. I like it."

good episode, takes me back to the golden era on cartoon network when they had a consitant line up of quality shows. i wonder why gendy's gone back to toons and not into features like he planned, and why not finish samurai jack first before doing this show which is starting to get more interesting with each ep though i'd suggest dropping the school stuff. this doesn't need to be some kind of high school drama, as if high school even compares to real life drama, it's ok to just focus on the main story. I think the corporate heads forced it in on gendy to appeal to kids, but at least they're having fun with it.

[A great movie is like a set of dominoes toppling over in perfect succession.]

I disagree. I want to see more high school.

I don't think its taken away from anything.

Just got one other quick ep. note... For some reason the race scenes reminded me of Tron. *shrugs* My asociations can get a tad weird.
