Continuity

I realize that in many shows episodes aren't aired in the order they are recorded but...do they not even try anymore?

This last episode when her oldest son came in to the store her boss asked who he was. Considering they fact that in the previous week's episode the son worked at the store, threw a party, and nearly got both himself & his mother fired shouldn't he have recognized him?
