People WOULD NOT be spending their last days at work

Okay, maybe a few people

But not tv anchorman, and the camera people and broadcast people needed

Not the people who make and deliver take out food

Come on, it's the last day you'll be alive and you'll be at work?

No way!

reply

Well, why not?
Perhaps there is still hope.
The media tells you this is the last day of your life. Do you completely swallow it?

reply

Yup, there would be complete pandemonium. There would be riots and Everyman for himself. Depending on how long people knew, no police, maybe no running water and no electricity. No cell phone service, no Internet, money would be useless so the only way your getting something you want is to find it, trade, steal, hurt/kill or have sex.

Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?

reply

I don't know...

When it comes to the vietnamese guy, we can assume he doesn't really have any family (close to him atleast) in NY, so he doesn't have anything better to do. Also, the bowing and respect he shows, we could say it includes the stereotypical asian work-ethics...

The anchorman (and crew). I'm sure there's lots of things that can be automated in a studio. In addition, people in that line of work tend to be very dedicated, like a lifestyle.

Wether you agree or not, it works as a plausible reason for me atleast

Yes, you have a few hours left to live, responsibility falls away, in other words there is complete freedom to do what you, without any social constraints - you are completely free. 99.99999999999999% of people are not free, they put themselves in a cage, they have an ego based on how they think others perceive them, they believe in a hierarchical society and accept the place and limitations allotted to them by those higher up the chain. Prisoners one and all. You and I might go out and do what we please before the end, still within the limits of our own fear of freedom, but many people would be so scared of freedom (something they haven't experienced since they were newborns) that they would carry on as usual pretending it was just a normal day; make-believing their last few moments away for them is easier than an overdose of pills.

(Done with fish.)

I know I wouldn't!
I'd ask for the day off.
And if I didn't get it, I'd file a grievance with HR!
