I think this version is up there. Unfortunately I think Liam Neeson version not so much despite his and Geoffrey Rush in it.

You want the story or music? If you are looking for the best version story wise, then you have to go back to the 1934 version by Raymond Bernard but its a about a 5 hour movie so few people today would have the patience to actually watch it. But it is probably the best version out there.

The best version is the 1934 version, directed by Raymond Bernard and starring Harry Baur, Charles Vanel, and Paul Azaïs.

I didn't know what to expect and it's not the kind of movie I would usually watch but it was great
