What little things annoy you most?

For me it's the fast travel locations. The strip could use a few more but mostly they just put them on the wrong side of doors. The last thing I want to do after fast traveling and watching a 2-5 minute loading screen is take three steps and watch another one or if you're on the strip it's like five screens just to get to the embassy or vault 21.

Also vats needs a cancel button. If you start a sequence and the target moves behind something you have to just stands there shooting at the wall wasting time, bullets, and AP.

reply

Totally agree about the VATS cancellation button. I've suffered the "infinite VATS" glitch where VATS mode doesn't close after your character finishes shooting, and I was stuck in slow motion unable to do anything and got mauled to death by a couple of rats.

And this was while playing a Very Evil character that was supposed to be the Devil herself bound in human form - ass gnawed off by a couple of rats! What kind of glorious death is that?

Also, I hate enemies that spawn when you fast travel. It makes fast traveling to certain areas unfeasible, because you know as soon as you get there you're going to get ambushed by Deathclaws, or Cazadors, and so you have to walk. Enemies shouldn't spawn for the first 30 seconds after you fast travel to a location. At least give you time enough to look around and prepare for what's out there, instead of warping in and getting blindsided by two or three Cazadors that you never saw coming.

Also, Strength requirements for weapons is bullsh!t. Fallout 3 didn't have them. Why should they exist in Fallout New Vegas? Why add something stupid like that to the game, so now my character isn't as efficient with a weapon because they don't have a certain number high enough? That's dumb. I suppose its meant to be more realistic, being that weaker people would have a harder time controlling more powerful weapons, but in the context of a videogame, it feels like a cheap gimmick intended to make the game more challenging when all it really does is make my character less of a badass. Thanks.

Another little thing that annoys me is Veronica's stupid, sack cloth, Legend of Zelda pointy hood. It looks stupid and its annoying. In fact, her whole default outfit is stupid. She looks like a sack of potatoes. That's why I always dress her in Metal Armor with a Boomer cap. Its hard to look like a post-apocalyptic badass when your sidekick looks like they just wandered out of the MorrowWood.

Speaking of annoying things regarding clothing, while I'm on the subject, it also irritates me the way your sidekick always switches to the default clothing, especially when said clothing makes them look retarded. I hate giving Boone the badass Bounty Hunter Duster to wear - and then he puts on the Space Helmet and just looks like a dork. Pisses me off, because I want to carry around the space suit for when we wander into high radiation areas. But I can't because whomever my human follower is will want to walk around with that ridiculous looking fishbowl on their heads and embarrass me with their presence.

Like I'm going to intimidate the Legate and the Legion walking up with someone dressed like a sack of potatoes and another who could shake the dandruff out his hair and make a snowglobe.

What am I supposed to do? Hope they die laughing?

reply

First they need to fix that vats glitch. It's actually worse if your using a weapon that reloads individual rounds like the .357, pump or lever action guns, if you vats right after reloading your character wont even shoot. He'll just stare at the target while it take it's sweet time killing you.

Second I hate the bootlegging place. I ran up on that place and there were no cazadors to be found. I run in for a minute grab some stuff come out and they're everywhere. Not a huge problem for a .50 cal SMG but I would've been super pissed had I not be properly equiped.

I actually like that they brought back the strength requirements for weapons. It makes strength more important and the only thing it modifies is the weapon's spread or ROF for melee, so it's really not a big deal, and if you have a strength of six you can use most anything anyway and there's also the perk. Also gives buffout a purpose, I never used it once in fallout 3.

The companions should be more controllable. In fallout 2 you can choose what they wear, what weapons they used, when to attack, which enemy to attack first (closest/furthest or strongest/weakest) which I loved and what senarios do they fight, run, use stims/chems, etc. Just because a weapon or armor is the best doesn't mean I want them to use it right at this moment. Maybe I want them to conserve ammo or item condition. Or maybe I'm just tired of them stealing my kills.

When I travel with Veronica I always give her the Brotherhood armor since she can actually wear it.

As for the space suit. The helmet doesn't have rad resist and also doesn't weigh anything so either leave the fish bowl at home or just keep it on you since it's a weightless 4DT when ever you need it but then again so is that ranger helmet which looks awesome but it doesn't let you wear glasses.

why are you pushing npc's into flames?!

i know one place where you can get your feet burned nice and crispy though. New Vegas steel. have fun!

reply

[deleted]

just sneak attack. as long as it says 'hidden' no one will care.. its the dumbest thing in this game IMHO. no one seems to mind a dead body as long as they dont actually witness the deed.

not saying they should call CSI-New Vegas, but some sort of reaction would be welcome.

Trying to burn them alive so I don't get a karma loss or raise any alarms from nearby friends.

LOL, you're doing it the hard way.

If you get yourself a .50 Calibur Anti-Material Rifle and load it with Incindiary Rounds, target someone in VATS, and then exit VATS. They will catch on fire without you firing a shot, and when they eventually die, you will not be hostile to any NPCs, nor will you lose Karma. Good glitch. Its basically free kills, although slow kills.

Just press the VATS button and target, and when you exit VATS they'll be a-burnin for no particular reason. LOL

From the Fallout Wiki:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/.50_MG

Entering and exiting V.A.T.S while your anti-materiel rifle is loaded with incendiary rounds, any person will catch on fire without using any rounds. Note: You must not actually fire for this to occur, and anyone killed by this effect will not gain you infamy.

That should be easier than pushing people into camp fires.

reply

[deleted]

Didn't they patch it so it doesn't work anymore?

I don't think so. If I remember right, I used it to soften up Jean-Baptiste Cutting when I was doing Cass's revenge quest, and that was after the patch.

If I had an anti-materiel rifle at that point I'd be solid.

Get one from the Gun Runners if you have the caps to spare. One incindiary round, and that's practically inifinte ammo.

Its cheap and bitch-assed, but its kind of funny and fun too.

[deleted]

thats the cheapest thing i've ever heard :p and another thing, why in the world are you trying to kill of npc's with no reprecautions?

as far as i know, there isnt too many that have something worth having.

reply

It works on everybody, which includes people you have to fight, especially the tough ones.

Like I said to Deadly, I used it on Jean-Baptiste Cutting to soften him up because I just didn't feel like wasting the ammo or armor condition. Also, combine that glitch with a Stealth Boy, and you basically have a stealth death ray to use against your enemies!

Just think how badass that would be, though. Who's going to mess with the person who points their gun in someone's direction, and that person just bursts into flames! LOL

reply

I don't know if this always works but when I enter vats from [hidden] I can charge in and uppercut someone in the face with Pushy in front of all their friends and no one seems to notice. I do always have a high sneak though. I level sneak and melee early so I can go around stealing and killing as I please with no Reputation changes.

Also what's up with people being more perceptive when they're asleep?

reply

good lord. this game have so many incredibly cheap ways to kill off enemies, i swear bethesda did it on purpose for some reason :p

if i didnt think that, the new elder scrolls will suck! and that can't be true....

anyways, thanks for the hint Dark, i'll try my best to NOT use it :p

reply

Obsidian made it, Bethesda published it.

Why is it so easy for children to break into The Pentagon?

reply

Going back to the OP question, my peeves are:

1) First and foremost, that @*&^! ammo default! I'm mostly scatterbrained, so i cant count the number of times i've been ambushed by Craevos (the stupid fly things) and pulled out my weapon with only 6 rounds of 'normal' ammo total.

I hate that the game automatically defaults to the 'normal' ammo, versus the improved version that you had already loaded into your gun.

2) I dont like that you can have dialoge options for things that you havent really learned.

I cant recall specifics, but say I'm talking to 'Matt' and i get an option to say "Well Harold thinks you're smelly"...and i had never met 'Harold' yet.

I shouldnt have that knowledge yet until i talk to 'Harold'.
Kind of takes a bit of the realisum out of the game when things like that occur.

3) i like the idea of reputaion with cities and/or factions, but i dont like how one little thing in one area get's broadcasted over the world.

I sniped one person, in his office, all alone, while hidden and silenced weapon...and that one sneaky kill made me vilified by every person in that faction...everywhere.

Technically, i should have been able to leave that office and be on my merry way without anyone knowing anything.

"Maybe" they could put 2 and 2 together, but really...no one should have know for days.

Those are the biggest gripes i've had.
:O)

It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.

reply

i agree with all of the points above.

though point nr.3 can be side-stepped by being hidden from your victim, if he sees you killig him, everyone will know.. however absurd.

reply

Hotkeyed weapons should keep their equipped ammo type.

If you're hidden and using a silencer then you should almost never get a rep change. I say almost because I've noticed that when you kill certain people you get a lowered rep no matter what.

I got a new one that I understand but still annoys me: they weakened Grim Reaper's Sprint too much. I get that it was over powering so it doesn't have to give you all your AP, but I think if you get two kills in one sequence then you should get 40 AP instead of 20.

reply

i dont recall all the perks from F3, but isnt the AP-regeneration x2 new. coupled with an action boy and the grim reaper you should be close to Kratos in any fight.

reply

[deleted]

The thing is it sways my style of play. With the old Grim Reaper I'd be more willing to string together vats attacks because I knew I was going to get my AP back if I killed multiple targets or not. With the new Reaper Perk I won't target more than one enemy because I basically lose AP for killing multiple targets in vats. It kinda breaks up the action sometimes.

Everything involved with the equipment/weapon loss and regaining in the casinos/ Ceasar's Camp annoyed me. It is annoying that it happens in the first place, though I admit it does makes sense narratively and gives you a little more challenge inside those areas. But i wish there was a physical place where your weapons actually were, so if you wanted to go rogue, you'd find them and kill everyone inside these areas. This would have especially been useful at Ceasar's Camp.

More than that, though, it is very annoying to have to hear all the sound effects and read all the messages for every single thing you ever had just because it was re-equipped when you left the casino. And why can't it remember the hotkeys?! Every time you do it, you need to re-assign the hotkeys, if they game keeps track of what you had outside, why can't it remember the hotkeys?!

There's also the fact that if you have a sneak of 50 then no one will ever part you from your Mystery Mag which can put down any casino or the Fort with ease.

reply

I don't like how you have to go through a few loading screens to get to the casino you are staying at in the Strip. Which is why I just leave all my stuff at motel with the dinosaur. Can't remember the name of the town for some reason.

Religious Views:
None. But if I stand on my roof I can see a church.

reply

Obsidian's trademark apathetic laziness in making this game.

More specifically, my dissapeared team mates, the game freezing every other time I walk out of a building, getting shot through multiple walls, and the obnoxious way VATS will frequently glitch and force my character to sit in place and stare at enemies while they slowly kill him.

reply

[deleted]

Agreed...they are obnoxiously annoying.

Too bad there is no gas-grenades you can fire into their nests...bug-bomb the lot of em.

Turbo is their natural enemy though. Combine that with an SMG or similar, and you have a chance.

CRIPPLE THE WINGS!!!

I wasted tons of medicine and ammo on head and body shots trying to take down scores of Cazadors. For some reason it never occured to me to go after the wings until I read it on the Fallout Wiki. If you cripple the wings they can't fly, and they'll fall to the ground flat on their backs like kicked turtles!

And thankfully, the wings are EASY to cripple because they're large and have low hit points. Cripple the wings and swat 'em like flies!

reply

I will have to try that. But great to have a workable defense against them. I think my perception is too low, because most times they are on me before i see them coming. Turn around and 3 of them are buzzin all around me, so i spray-n-pray out of sheer panic most times. hehehe

walking on mountains and boulders is the worst. lost count how many times i've gotten stuck in a boulder, even one just laying in a field alone. and since the game reads you as falling you can't escape it. you have use explosives to dislodge yourself or, if you don't have grenades, reload.

also invisible walls on mountains are infuriating

If you're looking for a challenge, deathclaws have been beefed up big time, they attack in packs, and since the last update a regular deathclaw's HP is doubled!

Jesus Christ, you can say that again they are very powerful now, though I think that is a good thing as it delivers more of a challenge, as long as you have an Anti-materiel Rifle or a Holorifle from Dead Money anyone should be fine.

Jesus, that's really super... How'd a nitwit like you get so tasteful?

Yea the Pew Pew is a great weapon its just a shame it only has 2 hots though, but then again it does shoot 5 shots at once...

And yea you really do need to be a seasoned player to avoid them, otherwise you are probably screwed unless you have a follower using melee who can sacrifice themselves for you lol.

[deleted]

As amazing as the Pew Pew is at times, I for some reason have a fascination with the Mysterious Magnum, it has power, looks and a little sound clip every time you use the weapon .

Yea followers seem very stupid though Lily has a very high HP so I usually get her to charge in and sacrifice herself. Yes I am that selfish that I will use an old woman to sacrifice herself for me.

As for hardcore mode, lol yeah I tried hardcore once for a day to give myself a challenge and I think all my followers died... Raul might have lived though he seems rather useless to me.

Yea theme music is awesome, speaking of theme music I love ED-E's battle music it always gets me into the mood for a fight. .

I would use Raul more though the loyalty quest is bugged for me as Loyal is bugged into the Black Mountains ...

Yea, I too will just be playing it no matter what. I personally in the case of DLCs have ran into only a couple of bugs, Dead Money I had a problem with Dog/God's personalities as the holotape refused to work . Though in Honest Hearts it was perfect.

Yea actually White Legs attacked me a lot out of nowhere, though I had a bigger problem with Giant Cazadors at Zion they just kept spawning and spawning though I got a lot of exp sooo, it was sort of worth it.

As for the patches, I agree it does make the game crash more, I am starting to think they are doing it on purpose now .

The White Legs incidents may just be based on the players level to give them a challenge or its just an outright bug.

After the last patch my game has not crashed as much THOUGH it still does crash every now and then.

The game freezes up A LOT. I've gotten on the habit of saving frequently just so I don't have to backtrack through everything I just did. It gets even worse when the auto-save file gets corrupted for whatever reason. I've never had that happen in Fallout 3.
