Suggestions for the location of next Fallout game.

I didn't see any mentions of this topic but if it exists already than I'm sorry for not noticing it.

I saw a thread on another site with some suggestions of possible places like Mexico, New York City, Hawaii and other countries like Japan, etc. The idea of New York City made me think... people are still sensitive about September 11th and terrorists even in some current video games *Medal of Honor changed the name of the enemies* It made me think that if you were to include a ruined New York City... would it include anything in the location of the towers? Whether it did or didn't I can still see how someone is going to find something to be offended about and itll end up being talked about and misrepresented on Fox News or something like they did in response to Mass Effect's brief pg-13 sex scenes.

What do you guys think?

My vote would be another major metropolitan area, so maybe New York, but I would prefer some somewhat less obvious choices:

In the U.S.

Chicago
New Orleans
Miami
Detroit
Philadelphia
Baltimore
Memphis
Seattle
Boston

Elsewhere in the world:

London
Manchester
Berlin
Tokyo
Hong Kong
Paris
Moscow
Sydney
Beijing (see it from the other side, with propaganda to match)

Chicago

It's been done. The Chicago Brotherhood are the only incarnation of the group that I feel deserves to continue existing. Unfortunately, according to cannon, they were pretty much wiped out. It sucks because they didn't have the disdain for the average person like the original Brotherhood, but they were a bunch of idealistic pushovers like Lyon's Brotherhood either. Their goals were really more in line with the NCR, minus the political red tape, and pandering to wealthy constituents. Caesar's Legion really wouldn't have lasted 2 seconds against them at their height either.

Wasn't the Enclave in Chicago also? If I remember correctly, ED-E's playback mentions returning him to any of the Enclave outposts out in Chicago. It would be cool to see the Enclave in action as well.

I don't remember the midwestern brotherhood be wiped out, and the Enclave has a base there.

reply

I would say San Francisco or LA.

It would be cool to explore locations like the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, or the Hollywood ruins.

For Foreign Locations, China would be a good setting. I would also like to see a London Setting as well.

I'd love to revisit them, but it won't work without an old school map.

have you played the first fallout? if not you play in the state of California and in the 2nd game you go in to Nevada. however if it were up to me I loved the first 2 games in the series I would love for them to go back and remake them with the engine they are using now I think that would be an awesome thing for old time fans such as my self. =D

reply

You can't have maps that big!

reply

have you ever played the first 2 games? the game world was huge in both games... and if in the elder scrolls 2 were you can have a map so big that if you were to walk from one end to the other you would spend a week in real life time walking it (mind you that game came out around the same time first fallout game came out) then yes you can have maps that big... however in the case of fallout 1 it covered the state of California and then in 2 it covered all the way from San Francisco to Nevada so yes the map can be that big... take note that the gaming styles are different between fallout 1 + 2 and fallout 3 + New Vegas. Fallout 1 and 2 were both overhead style RPG's so you did not travel in first person view you traveled by your pip boy map with the indianajones style line simulating your progress between point A and point B with random encounters along the way.

reply

I did play both the originals but i would bet all the money I have Betheseda won't go back to that style.

reply

I would say San Francisco or LA.

There both run by the NCR now so it be rather dull compared to something not under a state control or in an interface zone.

Amsterdam ^^

My vote would be for Florida. Radiated swamps filled mutated alligators, crumbled holiday resorts and theme parks to explore, as well as urban areas. I was excited about the Point Lookout expansion for F3 but it was such a small area.

i'm going to say it again because it seemed like my post was overlooked. Hollywood. the game is set with that fifties vibe, and the fifties were the golden age of Hollywood. there's so muchscope for survivors and surviving buildings. not just movie sets but mansions in the hills and stuff. and the characters could be brilliantly delusional. i think it would be brilliant
Like Escape from L.A?

exactly right i do, the other displays give me a headache :)

reply

I agree that'd be awesome!

Did the warheads hit everything in the world, or was it just the U.S.? I think New York would be great.

Fallout: The Big Apple

But Florida would be a great choice for a fallout series.

New York is a bit over done in games.

The whole world was hit.

reply

Even though New York City seems like a popular, obvious choice, I'm still going with it. It would be nice to see a Fallout New York where most of the skyscrapers are still standing. I mean some of them could be demolished, but it would be nice to get that deserted of the world city feel. DC didn't feel like that because there are many skyscrapers for one. And two, most of everything was completely whipped out at ground level. I think they can do plenty with NYC. And then after they can go overseas or whatever.

New York would be great! with all the urbanism today it would make a great place, Manhattan could had been the center of a bio-war, and the most dangerous place of all New York, or maybe Fallout: World, i dont know how, maybe various different locations in the world, like Kenya or Brasil, India, Australia, Russia, Mexico Border, etc

reply

I know its almost cliche, but I'm going with NYC. It works out perfectly too because since the world ended in the 50's they don't have to worry about what to do with the World Trade Center since that wasn't built until the 70's.

reply

No...The world ended in 2077, the world has that 50's feel to it to make it feel somewhat alien to the player. It's also there becuase the 50's were considered to be the nuclear age, so put two and two together.

Why is it so easy for children to break into The Pentagon?

reply

[deleted]

The world didnt end in the 50s it was like 2070s there was just a 50s fad at the time!

reply

They should do one in Canada. Canada will be having nuclear winter so it will be like the Arctic. So you'll be battling the cold and fighting polar bears, which are like bigger, white yao-gui's. On the soundtrack, you'll hear Canadian music from the 40s-50s only.

reply

Or they could return to Alaska, one that isn't a simulation and more exploreable. To be honest, they should make another follow up, because of the impact in New Vegas, whether or not Mr. House, NCR, or Ceasars legion wins, it will change the American wasteland.

Why is it so easy for children to break into The Pentagon?

reply

yes Alaska would be better because it's more northern and it's part of the US.

I think that the concept of Fallout Extreme should be brought back, because I would love to see a post-apocalyptic China

Norfolk!?! Why would I want to go to Norfolk?!?

reply

I think it has to be in the US so Detroit or Minneapolis would be ace.
