What's with the voice acting???

Seriously, almost everyone sounds blunt and emotionless... See, dragon age: origins had it right, you don't need big hollywood names, you just need PROFESSIONAL VOICE ACTORS, remember how amazing they sounded, completely in character and blending in with the general atmosphere of the game? Obsidian instead chose to use movie actors and sitcom stars that didn't have any experience in the specific field. Now don't get me wrong, I love Zachary Levi (aka Chuck Bartowski) and I stand in rock-star awe of Danny Trejo, but they really sucked in NV...
There are exceptions of course, Ron Pearlman is always there, like the fallout universe overseer. Wayne Newton is a worthy successor to three dog and is amazing to listen to throughout the mojave and of course there's always mr house and victor and a few other names but in general... not pleased!
On a sidenote Matthew Perry was really good but could have done better, sounds a bit blunt sometimes. Kris Kristofferson has the potential to become a great vg voice actor now that he's gotten on in years, just like Lance Henriksen.

I already found him,but didn't recruit him. I don't know how I didn't recognise his voice,Chuck is my favourite show. Thanks for the answer,I'll go back and recruit him. Where do compions go once,if you need to get rid of one for another? I think I bruised a testicle capturing that last pawn!PSN I.D:Lor20 Gamertag:Nero Faraday

Not only that, it seems like they've used the same voice actor for a lot of characters in the game. IE every black guy I meet has the same voice actor (IE that of the merchant Cliff in Novac). Even one of the white dudes near the Crimson Caravan had the same voice! I mean come on you can at least get a few more people to add some variety!

If I'm not mistaken, this same voice actor is used on two white characters I encountered so far: The Ranger outside the BOS fort and one BOS/Recon staked out near Black Mountain.

What's worse is there are lots of white guys with the black guys voice.... lame.

reply

yeah a lot of the random nameless characters have random voices that almost always dont suit the character. Then they have all the voice actors say the exact same lines so even if the voice is different its still always going to say the same thing.

its just annoying cause they really dont say that manny different things, but theres a fair amount of different voices. I mean if ur gonna get the people to d the voice acting how hard would it have been to get them each to say different things for some variety,

reply

The first thing I noticed when playing, was the poor voices.

Like the lady with the dog in Goodsprings, she just seemed so...dull? Not sure.

I did like the Mr House and Doctor voice though, those were pretty good.

reply

Yeah, that's exactly where i noticed it for the first time also and she's usually the second person you talk to!!!

That's the biggest problem for me. Other than that VA in NV is a big improvement over F3. Better writing always helps of course.

reply

yeah, certain characters almost make no sense, i know they can't hire a different actor for each character but they could at least try to change their voices a little in order to be more coherent character wise

The voice acting is fine. Quit bitching like a little girl.

No, the voice acting is moderate at best, u obviously know nothing or aren't intelligent enough to notice it, but hey... thx for your contribution in the discussion

You clearly are an idiot and a poor judge of anything. But hey, nice try at trying to sound smart.

Poor choice of words, suits your poor evaluation skills perfectly... oh and FYI, calling someone an idiot doesn't make you sound smarter ;)

"this sucks because I don't like it." - definately not how i put it, it was an educated opinion, state your reasons for believing otherwise, and please not in the form of "it's fine, quit bitching"

I'm sorry but as far as i remember "Joey_Kerr" started the fight, unless 'quit bitching' is an opinion. Now regarding the rest i never called my opinions 'facts',you don't need facts or a master's degree in the subject, you just need some experience in order to notice the difference in capable voice-acting and monotonous just-read-out-of-script. I simply expressed what i believed and waited for some feedback to see what everyone else thought, the few people that replied agreed while he/she on the other hand were confident enough to just go up and shout 'shut up'. I still don't understand the reason he even took part in this thread apart from starting a fight.
As far as educated opinions... here it goes: there's a reason behind the FACT that a minority of actors have been extremely versatile in the roles that they played and most every other have played a certain 'persona', it's because not everyone has the talent to do so. As for arguments i mentioned dragon age: origins where the voice-acting is extraordinary, as an example where voice-actors whom most people haven't even heard of can hold their own a lot better than Matthew Perry and Zachary Levi, it's because that's their field of expertise.
If you think i'm wasting your time than I encourage you to just move on with your life and leave this argument altogether, something which you had the luxury of doing so from the very start.

'I still don't think you've adequately described why your opinion is "educated." That was the word you used, so what are your qualifications?'

I compared it to the game that won best rpg game for 2009 and decucted from there, i won't go in specifics on how those 2 games can't be compared with a simple ruler (which they can't), i'm just saying its my experience and opinion as a beta game tester and gamer of well over a decade, versus somebody else's opinion, i just hate to get shut down with a single insult so maybe i overeacted on that account, you're right there.

Because of the amazing voice-acting that's been done by people that nobody has even heard from due to the fact that they are professional voice-actors (except Steve Valentine and maybe Tim Curry), but nevermind, i see you understand where i was heading in the first place

Was it really that bad? Ok, in the context of other games such as Dragon Age or Uncharted its pretty average, but this is a HUGE step-up from the utter rubbish in Fallout 3. Even Aslan/Ras Al Ghul/Qui-Gon himself sounded bored stiff.

It certainly wasn't the worst i have heard, but compared to the rest of the game the voice acting is definately one of its few faults

'I laugh at the face of danger!!!... and then i hide until it passes away'

reply

I don't think the voice acting is that bad. If anything it's because you can tell they just used the same VA's to do a majority of the NPC voices. Almost all of the regular citizens of the game have the same 4-5 voices. The addition of more acting talent was included, but like you said not all of them have experience with voice acting. I guess in my opinion it really doesn't matter how convincing the voice acting is. It's not on the same level as Mass Effect or anything but I give them credit for doing a better job than Fallout 3 or Oblivion.

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.

I like your answer, you've given it some thought apparently unlike others

The voice acting is ok, but don't you dare complain about the narration. Ron Perlman beasts it like a boss. As for the robots, though, It's downright pathetic that all of the Protectorons and Mr. Handies have completely lost their emotions and are now ultra-lame. IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF SEEING THAT MISTER GUTSIES ARE QUEENS NOW, TOO.

~Says the boss.

reply

I've nothing but the outmost respect for ron pearlman, quite frankly there can be no fallout without him as the narrator. And yeah, why did they change the voices in the robots? They were fine as they were
