Baby unattended on porch?

Am I the only one to bring this up but why was a baby by herself on the porch? It seems like the parents would have been in the house and noticed a strange girl playing with their baby as long as Alice was there.

I wondered about that too. The mother of the baby mentioned that she was with a babysitter when she was taken. So I assume the sitter left her on the porch and was inside. It would have been nice if they mentioned where the sitter was and why she left the baby out there.

I was thinking that the baby's sitter or nanny went back inside the house to maybe retrieve a toy or her purse or something else in a hasty manner...even with the locked doors which could have been automatic locks from the inside. Whichever girl initially snatched her then killed her (Alice gets my vote), the other was an accomplice and co-conspirator! Among the dozens of questions that still linger concerning this great indie thriller...that's my one biggest beef is why was that baby left alone on the porch of a beautiful house in an affluent neighborhood regardless of race???

Actually, the Dakota Fanning character killed the baby, and the babysitter had to have left the baby longer than just a few seconds because the girls who took the baby weren't in any big hurry and they were walking down the sidewalk with her.

I know you wrote this seven years ago, but I just watched the movie. Unfortunately, babies are left alone, far too often, by irresponsible people who don't believe a kidnapping will happen to them. I remember playing outside, when my family lived in an apartment complex, when I was four and my brother two. We were sometimes unattended. In fact, our neighbor called my mom to let her know my brother had removed his diaper and was running around naked. We were also right by a highway so either of us could have been run over. This was around '66, but bad stuff happened back then, too. We're lucky we both survived!
