Plagiarized akira

Angsty teen gets psychic powers, uses his powers for bad, goes on rampage in the city oh wait lets change it up a bit and give his friend powers to make it look like we didnt completely rip off Akira, and then a phoned in scene of him gettin abused that was straight out of an after school special to try and give him more deep rooted issues. Yeah we got ourselves a movie! I just saw Akira and I was blown away how obvious this screenwriter tried to cash in on a easy live action interpretation without all the complicated subplots and messages from Akira. Who knows maybe I'm just jealous

reply

Nope, you're 100% correct. I recognized this as an "Akira" ripoff when I first saw the previews for this movie, which was actually not bad. But ripping off "Akira" and not acknowledging it is an unforgivable sin IMO.

Every single piece of media has been inspired, and/or based off of something else.

Keep trying.

Duh you tard, some movies are alot more obviously ripped off more than others til you can't help but notice it, just like chronicle...like point break and fast and the furious have similar stories with a different setting but they switched up alot to the point that you stop caring chronicle barely tried with the stupid teenage angst *beep* Yojimbo and fistful of dollars too is an inspiration from another movie done right. chronicle falls flat and is to obvious of a ripoff, go *beep* yourself

reply

It's almost nothing like Akira, other than the telekinetic powers part.

reply

Teens...ones an outcast.....one goes to far..starts overrunning a city with powers....friend has to help stop... the end..that is the short story for Akira and the long story for chronicle

reply

By that(dumb)logic you might as well say Akira rips off Carrie.

reply

Stop sticking up for an inferior film and thanks for supporting my claim, Akira may very well be ripped off Carrie but ill choose to use the word inspired by as to these 2 films actually being monumental while chronicle was meh so that can be categorized as a ripoff..the cycle of recyclable plot formulas will never end. And cobra you suck cocks

reply

Stop defending a crappy Japanese kiddie cartoon that ripped of Carrie. Minus the pig's blood it's the exact same movie. Why can't the Japanese do original stories? They must suck.

reply

"crappy kiddie cartoon". Serious?

reply

Lol. 'I'll choose to use the word inspired'. Lmao, so who made you the king of semantics? Your opinion is that Chronicle is rubbish so it 'ripped off' Akira, but Akira was good so it took 'inspiration' from Carrie. Get off your high horse kid.

The gist of this entire thread is to showcase how cool you are because you like Akira better than Chronicle, because you watched Chronicle and liked the premise so searched for other teenage super hero films no doubt.

What a laughable thread.

Can you believe how many movies plagiarize the bible? They all have humans in them! So unoriginal!

reply

Where were the creepy psychic children then? Or the part were the crazy telekinetic guy turns into a massive gross blob of human guts and stuff?

reply

What about that movie, The Craft from 1996. its pretty similar

reply

Basically, you are new to this whole 'fiction' thing and seeing literary works share elements or be inspired by something else confuses you.

reply

that's ridiculous.
