The first half of the movie was good until Andrew became "evil"

Like it was good until he started turning on his friends halfway through. His character was just annoying to me, way too whiny and angry. If he was as smart as he thought he was, he would've found better solutions to his problems. He has the power to pull people's teeth out of their mouth, why can't he just pull wallets out of people's pockets? Why rob stores and murder people? His whole natural selection and apex speech was also really cringe-y, he was like the prototype of the type of kid that shoots up schools.

The best part of the film was when they were pulling pranks and exploring the depths of their newfound powers.

Yeah, I thought they'd work up some "with great power comes great responsibility" vibe. Where they became extremely ethical, realizing they held the power of life/death over practically everyone. Superheroes, but without a rulebook (which was why they had to write one).

The "rules" made sense. And with 3 of them watching each other, they could monitor one another, if someone was unconsciously backsliding. The whole point of the rules is that they were voluntary. They only made sense because they realized that as ethical beings they could _not_ just "do what they wanted" with the powers. There did have to be boundaries.

Instead, Andrew just turns into a psychopath.

I could have written a much better third act, but Hollywood never called.

I would say the opposite. The psychological tension with Andrew coming to terms with his new powers was so intense and I loved it.
