Was Ben Theodore supposed to be Ben Whishaw?

They use so many real celebs names in the show. When Simon was describing Ben Theodore, I was racking my brain trying to figure out who is that? But it turns out it was a made up name and just a character in the show. Everything he described made me think of Ben Whishaw. (Best actor of his generation, does plays, acted in tv dramas playing vulnerable characters, so thin it looks like he could break, shy and very quiet). And seriously, I would be in awe if I ever met Ben Whishaw too. I think Ben Theodore was supposed to be Ben Whishaw.

I thought the exact same - especially when he asked his mother 'Why didn't *I* go to RADA?', which is where Ben Whishaw trained.
The TV drama he described and another programme 'Ben' mentioned also had the same plotlines as past work Whishaw has done.

Yeah it was obviously Ben Whishaw. There was also the references to ben wearing braces (he always wear braces) and liking cats (in his early acting CV Ben had "breeding cats" as something interesting because he couldn't think of anything else).

I agree with everyone above - it seemed like Ben Theodore was definitely supposed to be Ben Whishaw. I'm sure I read somewhere that Simon Amstell had met Ben Whishaw once and tried to chat him up, but made a real fool of himself in the process. I'm not sure about the casting of the actor who played Ben Theodore though - he didn't really look waifish enough if he was representing Whishaw.

And - I have just found out - Wishaw actually plays Ariel, the part Simon is angsting over
