Low Budget Crazies?

I've only seen The Crazies remake, but that's not an inaccurate assessment. Of course, the primary different in terms of execution is that the leads in The Crazies actively tried to escape while the government tried to cover things up by killing everyone where as in SoE, the leads hole up waiting for rescue and the government is actually trying to save the survivors.
