Should have ended after...

..."Hi". Everything after that is just pointless. It feels like the only reason for the military interrogation scenes is so they could have the reunion hugs scenes, but they don't feel very emotional since it's not clear that they've been away from each other more than a couple of hours.

I also feel that they forgot about showing what happened in the beginning and how the wife was shot. At least one more flashback would have been good.

The wife died in the auto accident.

The wife dies as a result of the accident, we have to assume, because we see the car in the ditch, but it appears she has a bullet wound in her lower right abdomen. We see her laying in a stall in the barn, bleeding, or having bled out.

BOHICA America!

I wouldn't have liked your suggested ending (after "Hi"). I think it's bad writing to have the protagonist die so negligibly after making the viewer so attached to him / her.

I do agree with you about the reunion. They greeted one another as though they were welcoming a relative from abroad. Some might say that they were happy that the others are not dead, but that thought make no sense; if they survived then their friends must have survived too. They should have reduced the excitement in that scene.

I totally loved that scene. Especially the music. And so what if it has not been years since they have seen each other?? They can still be very glad to see each other..... Great scene. Great music. I am glad it was end the movie.

I think it was maybe him saying 'where are my friends?'
after the talk Jim had with Ix about having no friends...
made the end bit more worthwhile

Yeah, I have no friends either... just waiting for the apocalypse to make some
