Any word about this being released on dvd?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Kevin said in an interview that it would eventually be released on dvd, but only Epix can show it for now. He talked about it at some point in the press Q&A that's on his smodcast page (http://smodcast.com/livefromsmodcastle/), it's a pretty interesting listen too. Anyway, you can watch it for free on Epix's website with a trial account.

Thanks for the update I really appreciate it, I'm behind on listening to smodcast. I watched the whole thing live, I was there, that's why I want it on dvd. It was a 5-hour show, so a 2-hour special isn't quite enough.

I also now own the sheet that says, "I ASSURE YOU THAT I'M 40" that's behind him on the stage.

reply

Get the *beep* out of here! You gotta tell us the story behind that!

Oh and I think kevin said on smodcast that the dvd will be out in a few months with a couple hours of extra material. The 2hr version is really good too. I think he's the only person who can go on for two hours answering one question without losing track.

I also have one of the doors to one of the stores and a window, besides the sheet. To raise money for the Count Basie Theatre renovations, they auctioned off pieces of the set. I also have a couple "Too Fat for 40" towels with his picture on them. The towels they were giving away, he was supposed to do like an Elvis thing when he wiped the sweat off and throw them to the audience but the A/C was cranked so there was a pile of them that he didn't use. The door and window are plexiglass in woden frames and they were covered with View Askew stickers and signs. The sad part is that the sheet wasn't new and has some suspicious "stains" on it. Overall, he was very gracious during the meet and greet, which was also to raise money for the renovations. I'm sure EPIX paid the Count Basie something for the set to be built and then they got to auction it off besides. The RST and Quick Stop signs sold for like $750+ each, way out of my price range.

"Suspicious stains"? Did it smell like shoe polish?

No shoe polish!

I was really disappointed by the two-hour version. I thought it was really a sign that marijuana kind of ruined his way of doing Q&As. Seriously, a two-hour show with a two-hour answer ?

I saw him live in Octobre 2009 where he talked about the same stories, and it's just not as great as the first two EVENING.

Can you say a little more about the rest of the show we havent seen ?

reply

The rest of the time it was a real Q&A. They also brought out his birthday cake and we all sang happy birthday. I viewed it as his little homage to George Carlin, more of a one-man show.

reply

i'm in the middle of watching now and he's 1 hour into answering a question about directing bruce willis that has nothing to do with him.

i agree about the marijuana thing. i enjoy his smodcasts when he smokes up, but he's taking way too long to answer a question. and in addition, i feel like we've heard every story he's telling already on previous q&a's as well as smodcast.

reply

Don't view it as a Q&A, watch it like a George Carlin or Robin Williams comedy special. At the end, he said that he always wondered if he could talk like that for two hours and he did it. When the "show" was over, he came back out and did the real Q&A. The show started a little after 7:00 PM and we finally left at around 1:30 AM. You do the math, do you really think he was stoned onstage that whole time.

reply

Watched this last night...it's available to watch on Netflix streaming...hadn't even heard of it just ran across it.

117 minutes and 1 question..."What was it like to direct Bruce Willis?" Having not listened to his Smodcasts much most of this was new (there was one bit that sounded familiar) but c'mon...having a Q&A and only answering 1 question?!? I would have been so pissed had I been the second person waiting in line to ask a question!:)

reply

The people waiting in line ended up sitting on the floor -- waiting. That would have pissed me off, since there was no warning about the plan. As I said earlier, the real Q&A started after the "show."

reply

the bruce willis part was the best part

I watched this last night for the first time - Ive seen his 3 other 'An Evening With' DVDs, and although Ill always love Kevin Smith for his films and these, each one has gotten more disappointing as time has gone on.
Agreed with the other posters here, though this was a cut down version, a 2 hour rant based on one question isn't impressive, especially as he opens the show with 'we are gonna sift through questions at a fast pace'. There had to be more to it, as a quick advertisement of this on epix showed him talking about the Airline incident, which I was quite looking forward to listening to, and this wasn't on here! I know its part of his Smodcasts too

The original 'An Evening With' was def the best, but then again it gave 4 1/2 hrs of footage across 2 discs, and was fresh at the time, with Kevin talking about his film making processes and injecting it with stories about his family and social life, we had fun listening! We got Mewes onstage as a surprise, and it was at the height of his Jay and Silent Bob stories, and Silent Bob can talk!
Now the trouble is he tries to make the everyday existance sound exciting, and you can't help but feel that we've heard it all before! Some parts you do prick your ears up with interest, other parts your starting to fall asleep too!

I re-iterate once again, I love Kevin Smith, I saw him live at the O2 in London back in 2009 as well, and given the chance to see him live again id jump at the chance, but id say that I was interested for around 1 hour of this two hour talk... life feels mundane for us all as we grow up, and good ol Kev is no exception!

I've seen the other 3 (plus Burn in hell) and I like all of them. Maybe some are better, but ALL are enjoyable (sold out is one of my fav, so I don't think that it is going downhill since the first). Never listened to the Smodcast, and I don't feel that I've listened all before as some say.
