I'm sure Kevin Smith isn't the easiest person to work with. Willis is a big star and has had many experiences in Hollywood while Smith is still a little unprofessional and not at all experienced in the big scheme of things.

Smith's story didn't make Willis seem like a diva. The point of that story was that Smith was unprepared for the job he had taken. Willis has done a lot of big studio pictures and knows how they're done. Smith has not, and in fact has spent a lot of time talking about how he doesn't like doing it the big studio way and prefers his informal indie style. If he had invited Willis to work on his little indie film it probably would have been a different story. But if Smith is going to step up to direct a big studio film he should learn the way it's done so he doesn't seem like some dumb kid wandering around with no idea what's going on. Willis corrected him, and I'm sure Smith learned a lot from the experience. He even says Willis gave him his David Addison moment which shows that he's not being difficult.
