'Ser o no ser, yo soy'

I've noticed that Teresa seems to say this little phrase in every episode. What does she mean by it? I don't really understand it.

It translates as "To be or not to be, and I am" so I think it means that she is somebody vs being the nobody that her rich classmates and their families think she is.

Oh ok, well that makes sense. Thanks for explaining it to me. I asked my mother but she just confused me.
