I read the book for class and loved it. When I heard they were making a telenovela, I got really curious. I've watched telenovelas before, a lot of times with my aunts or grandma, and while they're entertaining, I have to admit they're not the finest forms of entertainment and usually lack substance. Is this the case here or is it as good as the book? I saw a few commercials and it seemed like they were trying to do the book justice, but it looked like it had a way to go.

Very suspenseful, entertaining, great acting, music, everything is perfect.
They added some scenes that are not in the book, but they're OK, they didn't ruin it.
Even the directing and some of the footage are typically in the style of Latin Telenovelas, it's filmed in HD, good Cinematography, the plot is interesting, all time happening things, in real locations, and acting is in general quite good.
The only horrible thing is some actors are dubbed by another actors, but dubbing sound like a documentary host voice, too filtered too artificial. This especially happens in the voice of the boss of the Galician narc gang and one of his flunkeys. Ivan Sanchez does it almost well with his Galician accent having been born in Madrid, but at least with his real voice. Finally the role of Mónica Estarreado, even very funny and almost believable, it's almost ruined by that pantomime of some of the Andalusian accents, not very well defined, but definitively not the accent from Melilla. But this is even worse when her role is an illegal immigrant from Morocco, so why the hell she speaks Spanish that well, with that sort of mixture of Andalusian phonetic stereotypes.
On the other hand Nacho Fresneda is fantastic playing the Arabic role, very believable, and his Spanish with Arabic accent perfect, like most of the real Arabians I know.
I guess all this is only noticeable in Spain, Latin audiences probably won't notice all this, so they can enjoy better the plot, however Spanish audiences has to ignore all this to enjoy. Anyway the series are also a success here.

I also like it. IMHO, the only disadvantage is the too often and too long flashbacks which are very tiring.
