Bernie Tiede may be released from prison

Sorry, but I don't know how to post a link. I'm sure someone else on here can do so. Texas Monthly is reporting today that his case is being reviewed--due to this film, and Bernie may be released next week.

He should have been charged with Second Degree Murder anyway. I really do think he was temporarily insane or he would have gotten rid of her body.

There can be only one.

reply

I think a temporary insanity plea in a case like this is BS. This was a slow process of that woman treating him like crap, building up the frustration over time. He had the free choice to simply part ways with her and keep the whole thing from happening. But he stayed in the situation of his own free will until he snapped. That's not my definition of temporary insanity. Also, I don't think him not getting rid of the body had anything to do with being temporarily insane. In fact, to me it proves he was acting with a clear head well after the murder had taken place, and still chose not to confess.

reply

I think you're making the opposite point that you were trying to make. You said yourself he "snapped." You don't say that about someone who is acting with a clear head.

reply

I dont know about it being due to the film... I would hope that the Texas DoJ does not base reviewing cases off Jack Black movies. they did find some new evidence about the mentality of both Tiede and the woman that may reduce the sentance.

He's been released now according to today's newspaper.

Linklater better get rid of his freezer!

Its that man again!!

reply

Was his kids that involved with her like the story as most never talked or cared for her.How does a woman goes unnoticed or unseen for months without her relatives wondering why.

Her son had to be told she died.Sad but I love to see these family members mad at her now caring.

reply

Caring?! Yeah, caring about her money. They can only get it if he's convicted; if he's not, the will stands.

reply

Don't surprise me. That f#@king Texas parole board has more tattoos than teeth.

First I find out it's a real story (at the end of the movie), now I find out he's released!

reply

They put him back in prison.

As much as I like the movie, I think it was a good move. He still shot an old lady in the back 4 times which is worthy life imprisonment.

Sucks to hear he just got another life sentence on the re-trial.
