Power Rangers Samurai compared to other PR series

So for those who have watched it, how does Power Rangers Samurai compare to other PR series? I do know that they split the Season into 2 parts (with part 2 airing in 2012)

I find it interesting that Bulk is back in PRS . . . maybe Skull will appear.

Horrible. Watch RPM and it is better than this. I'm just glad they are showing reruns of old seasons, you should see them. PRS is a complete and bad copy of Shinkenger. Though the team up up movie was okay though. This has mad me into a sad " Sentai will always be better " fan. I'm disappointed this happened to Shinkenger.

Samurai has the weakest acting and writing of any Power Ranger series. In my opinion, it is undoubtedly the weakest season of Power Rangers.

wow . . . so Samurai is even worse than a couple of other bad PR series (Operation Overdrive and Turbo).

Hmmm . . . maybe Super Samurai will do a little better . . .

reply

Let's not forget about Wild Force, that had some diabolical acting too, esp from Rick Medina (Cole) and Ann Marie Crouch! (Princess Shayla)

reply

as bad as Samurai is

it's not worse than Operation Overdrive and Jungle Fury...

Turbo is only better than it, due to some decent actors throughout

I dunno I found the acting in Jungle Fury at least somewhat torelable. I think it's almost just as bad as OO. The acting in both were pretty bad all throughout the series and had a mediocre team up special. But OO didn't have Kevin... Soooooo gotta say OO was a bit better :P

Samurai is weak but is NOT worse than OO, worst PR series ever! At least Samurai is watchable..

I'm sorry I'm not going to be STUPID, and give any opinion on this right now!
I'm saving my opinion till it's over.
But I am going to say this, I'm glad there's an original Power Rangers show on the air as opposed to Disney Ruining Season 2 of Mighty Morphin!

I'm surprised at all the hate Mystic Force and Jungle Fury get. Mystic Force isn't one of my favorite, but I enjoyed it when I watched it. Jungle Fury is a very enjoyable season. I hated the suits, at first, but, in my opinion, it really was a well done season. Overdrive is another story. It was not very good, either, but I would rather watch it than Samurai. I can deal with poor acting. Poor writing is what annoys me the most, and to me, that is Samurai's biggest flaws.

I'm not one of those people who complains about how Samurai is a direct translation of Shinkenger. Time Force is one of my favorite seasons, and it is more or less TimeRanger, with Ransik. I have no problem if you want to use the same storylines as the Sentai. What I have a problem with is poor writing. You can keep the same story lines, but make the dialogue read naturally. Samurai's dialogue is painful to listen to.

Also, I hate when kids shows talk down to the audience. I will be the first to admit that Power Rangers is a kids show. In my opinion, however, it shouldn't treat kids like idiots. You don't have to explain every little detail, and give us flashbacks of what we saw 30 seconds ago, explaining what we just saw. Power Rangers should not be a "Show and Tell" type show. It should be able to be a "Show, don't tell". Don't tell me what the rangers plan is. Show them putting it into action. For the most part kids are watching for the action, anyway.

RPM did this right in my opinion. It was written like an actual TV show that everyone could enjoy. Same with Time Force and In Space. Yes, they were still directed at kids, but we got character development that didn't just show up every once in a while. The characters were constantly growing. Compare that to Samurai. In one of the latest episodes, Kevin longs for his swimming past and feels like he let his old team down by joining the rangers. Sounds like a GREAT storyline. The problem? We haven't heard Kevin mention swimming since the 4th episode (2nd if you put Origins as 19 and 20). If you had Kevin relate being a ranger to swimming every few episodes, this storyline could have worked well. It's like that with all the rangers. And don't get me started with all the "gold" puns and random Spanish that Antonio has.

One more thing, what is the point of Bulk and Spike? In Season 1, Bulk and Skull were bullies and rivals to the rangers as people. In Season 2, they were trying to figure out who the rangers were, which could be seen a threat to the rangers. Season 3 was the first time they got their own storyline, but even then, they were still interacting with the rangers. By that time, though, they were established characters. Bulk and Spike in Samurai are just... there. They serve no purpose other than to kill time. There were quite a few episodes they weren't in, and I didn't even realize it until after the fact.

Samurai had a LOT of potential, I just don't feel like it lived up to it. The biggest problem is the writing. It's still somewhat enjoyable, but I found every season of Power Rangers to be enjoyable, even Overdrive. It takes up a half hour of my week, when I wouldn't be doing anything else anyway. I just hope that the next season, whether it be an adaptation of Goseiger or Gokaiger, has better writing.

I quite liked Mystic Force and Jungle Fury. For me the worst are Turbo, SPD, Overdrive and the new bottom, Samurai.

Well I was wrong . . . I had thought Super Samurai was supposed to return on the 8th, but instead it returns on the 22nd.

And from what I read on the Morphing Grid Wiki, the final episodes of SS have already aired in Brazil . . .

Too bad Saban blew it with Samurai/Super Samurai . . .

OO was bad, but not as bad as Samurai. This show is so bad I thought they were acting horribly on purpose at one point

For me
Samurai was by far the worst season of the franchise

Octoroo was annoying
The bulk and spike parts are stupid in super samurai

RPM and Time Force and In Space and Lost Galaxy are worth watching
