Really? Do other countries' militaries allow subordinates to debate amongst themselves before following orders? You're describing the typical military chain of command, which is not exclusively American.

reply

More like a typical military chain of command of 20th century. Actually nowadays innovation and ability to perform independently is highly valued. The groups for that were set in the WW2, when the elite units began.

What if a movie was made in France? Would it be too french...?

reply

We would not have a series if it were.
The Colonials would have surrendered to actual toasters, much less a Cylon.

reply

French military don't put their hands behind their backs, they put their hands in the air.

reply

Silly me.
I thought the complaint could have been about how the "communal showers" framing stopped with the armpit level at the bottom of the screen. If it was French, (or a lot of European countries), it wouldn't have stopped there. That's been done in STARSHIP TROOPERS and even ROBOCOP before.

Or maybe the complaint could have been about the close-ups of the "gun violence"...

Both of those are pretty "American", but I would have guessed that rigid military posture and behavior would have been any of several other countries.

reply

So....non-American military members sit with their hands in their pockets maybe?

They don't follow orders obviously. They respond to the drill sergeant's commands with references to existentialist philosophy.

reply

They follow orders only independent thought is highly valued. Unlike in the US where any deviation can lead to Court-martial. The Australians for instance can question orders. It stops the "I was under orders defense". If you're given an order that could be end badly or that is unagreeable. Killing innocents for example. Invading territories.

They're also considered one of the best trained armies and special forces in the world.

reply

Alright... if that were the case, how would Blood & Chrome have differed if done in that style?

Guess, I'm "too American".

Not sure but I can guess at least one of you posters has no manners. Mother; really???? Blatant reference to dreemteam24. IMDB is no place for political propaganda.

As far as a Blood and Chrome conversation is concerned. I guess maybe it is too much of an American thought that in the future there is no such thing as individual goals or countries. That co-ed showers are still far too censored for being co-ed. That all pilot jockies are chiseled sex symbols. I fail to see the notion of these being negative assessments.

And of course there was never any subordination on the Galactica. (Sarcasm implied.) That is why military personnel never ended up in the brig. No matter how grand the Aussie military is they still report to commanding officers and act upon orders.

This hopeful new spin-off series is a great look at a pre-annihilated human world due to over innovation. Not from human conflict. People of this post remember not to let the ramblings of the inane cloud the art and entertainment of what may be to come.

Which is of course a way too American over censored SyFy militaristic future of war that is absolutely fantastic!!!!

So say we all!!!!

reply

Maybe it's too American because it was produced by Americans.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.
