this show is terrible and here's why...

forest whitaker's acting is absolutely horrible, his "trying to be the killer" crap is so over-dramatic it's painful to watch. he's done so many better roles in so many better films that he should quit this one before he completely kills his career. as for the other actors, janeane garafalo is just all around terrible in this as well. there are so many good show that can replace this garbage, how they all get cancelled and this doesn't blows my mind

reply

No offense but Gideon from the original CM could get overdramatic in some of his tactics too.

reply

Not saying I didn't like Whitaker's acting, but Mandy Patinkin was simply great in CM. There wasn't an ep where I didn't enjoy his acting and portrayal of J Gideon, even if he was overdramatic at times, as you said. Just my opinion :)

reply

I think Whitaker is over the top because he's compensating for the bad writing by overacting. He's a very fine actor.

reply

Forest Whitaker is a really good actor, but in this show i cannot stand him!!! I can't stand the show itself as well... Can't stand Janeane G in it either - I never cared for her before, but now she just irks me. the show is dull, boring and the fact that you know the killer from the beginning sucks.

reply

We know who the killer is because its not about that. Its the mindset behind it. Its not about us finding out who did it.

reply

We know what its about and it doesn't work for most of us.

One example (and if I got it wrong, anyone feel free to correct me) of that which pretty much says it all: Whitaker's character telling the school principle to call the school principle on the phone about Paul Meeks.

If they can't be arsed to write two decent dialogue lines, the show deserves the status of failure.

He was actually telling the high school principal to call the middle school principal. They were running through the names of the Meeks kids... Kyle was in attendance that morning, Shawn never showed up. Then Whitaker asks about third boy and principal says Paul Meeks, eighth grade, middle school. Then Whitaker tells him to call the other principal.

reply

Ah! You're right, my bad. Crap. I forgot one of the sons was going to middle school. Damn. I guess most of my rant can be disregarded then, but okay. It's still a terribly dull and silly show.

Maybe Garafalo's extremist politics have turned away people too.

reply

The whole thing is a joke

reply

It did for me. I have a hard time watching her knowing the type of hateful person she is.

reply

If that's how your mind works then you're missing out on a lot. Granted, not missing out much with her acting but in general.

reply

Many people consider "Columbo" to be one of the best crime shows ever mad for TV. Everyone knew who the killer was but the enjoyment came from watching Columbo catch the killer.

I agree the show was terrible, J.G was a big part of the problem but the main problem was poor writing.

Responding to eeoulo:

Yes, and if that is how YOUR mind works, you are missing out on a lot. You don't know what the Leftists have done to this great country! You don't appreciate the finer writings of Ann Coulter; or the down-home reasoning of Sarah Palin, or the history lessons of Newt Gingrich!

You are missing out on a lot; in general, a lot! But that's OK, because we know that sometimes it is too much for a Leftist mind to deal with. Sorry!

And that kind of thinking is exactly why it is doubtful that the G.O.P. will occupy the White House anytime soon.

Not everyone finds her extremist.

reply

Whitaker is a good actor though. He was amazing in The Last King of Scotland. I think this show is just so over the top that it would be hard for ANY actor to make the poor writing work

reply

I agree with you guys. I'm a big whittaker fan, normally what he is in is good, but this show is the exception to the rule. I also don't think garafalo was the right choice, her acting has always been bad. It should have been a stronger actor.

reply

I really like Whitaker also. I think this had potential. Not a big Janeane Garofalo fan, so that puts me off. But I think the biggest reason for it's failure is that the creator of the original Criminal Minds, Jeff Davis, doesn't appear to have anything to do with this. I see Chris Mundy, a co-producer of about 1/2 of the original and involved in the writing of 14 original CM episodes, was a part of it but that wasn't enough to get the Criminal Minds feel to Suspect Behavior. This is so far from the original's feel you could take the cast from the original and put them into the counterpart rolls in Suspect Behavior and it wouldn't work. All this show has done is prove that Jeff Davis deserves a raise. I wish he would have been more involved in this project than that new Teen Wolf series.

reply

This spin off is horrible because of the whole cast. Forest whitaker and the rest of the cast acting like a bunch of emotionless robots. YOu can't emphasize with them.

I turned it off right away after the first 20 minutes. I wonder why so many good shows get cancelled and this peace of crapshow get's airtime

reply

I just started watching, 25 minutes of Episode 1 and

I don't like it. The plot is not interesting, the team members don't seem to be as smart as the team in the criminal mind

And I agree with a post that I read earlier, the actors are emotionless

reply

I like Janeane Garafolo or however you spell her name. She would've been much better as the Supervisory agent than Creepy Cooper.

reply

I watched most episodes, like it enough to keep watching but am not devastated that it was cancelled. Forrest Whitaker is not the problem. He is a fine actor who as done very very well in similar roles but suffers from dreadful writing in this show. The Jeanane/Beth character is not really credible and probably would not be convincing in the role even with decent scripts. some have commented on her politics. I have never heard of her before or seen her in anything and have no idea as to her politics so i have no mindset on her. Just think she did not add anything to the show. The Matt Ryan/Mick character was good, good actor with bad writing but it does stretch credibility a bit that the FBI could import a UK national as and agent.

Another problem is the setting, Los Angeles. I understand why studios find it cost effective to film there but it is essentially a very boring, characterless city. I have been there before and would have no reason to visit it again if my son didn't live there.

reply

He's my least favorite on the team for sure. And I hated the first episode and everyone in it (except Penelope, of course). Then I realized that I was such a huge fan of the original CM that I was trying to make THIS show THAT show. I had to let go of the first CM to enjoy this CM.

Forest Whitaker is still my least favorite team member... but I've sincerely enjoyed the ride.

reply

Forest Whittaker may be a talented actor, but he was seriously miscast in this role. Just because an actor is talented does not mean they can play every type of role. It was just cringeworthy watching him trying to show authority and empathy--neither of which he pulls off. The actors on Criminal Minds (the original) can come off as cheesy but they seem more credible. That's the problem with the show. It was just such an odd pairing of Forest Whittaker who's stone face and mumbles....with Janene who looks so serious in this show. The other actors didn't seem to fit either. I don't know why they didn't just pick some of the other past members like Jordan Todd (Meta Golding)...characters that we already are comfortable with and just make a smooth transition. The scripts weren't great but the casting just sunk the show. I don't think terrorism, etc would have been a good angle to go with...the serial killer angle is what made the original intersting....all they had to do was make a good copy of that. Put credible actors in there and have the same writing/storylines as the original. For an FBI show to work, the audience has to buy into the fact that the characters are credible as agents.... I was too busy noticing the tics of Forrest Whtiaker and the deadpan of Janene Garofolo to get into the story. Also, the interrogations and dime store profiling were pretty bad.
