This is why Canadian films get dissed

Canadian film is often the brunt of jokes and hilarity. Movies like this are why.

The script was nothing more than a bunch of screaming and f-bombs strung together with awkward (and very obvious) direction from the characters to whatever it was they wanted the viewers attention on. The dialogue, when it did happen, was stilted and wooden, or overly dramatic -- the best scenes were when they were running from something "scary", because at least that felt real. The main character (Lance) spoke too loudly to the camera when the movie began (when he was in his "show celebrity" mode, then was mumbling and unintelligible later when he addressed the camera -- the sound quality of the film was terrible, and I wondered at one point if I was actually watching someone's (no-budget) film-school project.

Found-footage films can be excellent, and lend themselves well to the horror/thriller genre. Such was, unfortunately, not the case with Grave Encounters. If I hadn't seen Mira Sorvino in Mimic, I would say that this was the worst film ever, but its one redeeming quality was the fact that it could be watched as a spoof and appreciated for how bad it was.
