Session 9 Reference

They kept focusing on the wheelchairs. And the first time we see a wheelchair it is in the same perspective as the classic Session 9 cover. Definitely a nod. I thought it was pretty cool.

In case you don't know, Session 9 is an awesome asylum movie.

Ya, I thought that was definitely an homage to Session 9.

It also made me think of The Changeling, with George C Scott

I thought of Session 9- can't believe I forgot The Changeling!

Session 9 is an asylum movie, I would call it a disappointing one as well. It's been 14 years, but I don't have fond memories.

I saw Session 9 in the last half year. I wouldn't say it was thrilling all the way through, but I quite appreciated what they went for and managed to achieve. Grave Encounters (which I just finished) is okay, but doesn't even come close to being as ambitious. Of course not every film will impress every audience member, but one of these two is just a series of loosely connected jump scares with a set of typical horror characters, while the other is a psychological thriller, a puzzle (not difficult, but still something to think about) and has an atypical cast of characters for a horror movie as well. Also, I was genuinely freaked out at times by S9 but GE never once even creeped me out even a little bit. Disappointing since it seemed to have a promising start. Also the acting was passable for 90% of the film but the parts where Matt and Lance are acting "crazy" are just awful. Clearly neither the actors nor directors had a clue about portraying such things either accurately or at least in a way that might seem appropriately creepy. Not a fair comparison between these two films at all. :')
