Clone it?

A few of the board posts in here wonder why they simply couldn't clone it and allow the specie to thrive again. There is a slight issue with that method. You simply can't repopulate a specie from a single gene pool. There is simply not enough diverse DNA in that gene pool to fight any genetic problems that may occur.

This isn't Jurassic Park where they done movie science trickery and boom, the magic happens. This is why interbreeding is frowned upon as the chances of offsprings being born with disabilities and genetic diseases are high. At least if you have different lines then some might not have those defects.

Clone it and have the clone used for science? At the beginning of the movie, they clearly stated not only did they want a sample of the blood but organs too. Doubt they'd have waited long enough for the cloned animal to grow. And if Martin had left, they'd just keep sending people until it was dead.
