Why is Wolfwood's voice a different actor?

WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO MY FAVORITE ANIME CHARACTER?!

GAARTGHGH!

I know, the different voices were really annoying. I'm glad Vash's voice was the same though- he has such a distinct/perfect voice for the part. Wolfwood's original voice was also very distinct though and I missed it. : ( I guess it's been over a decade since the original dub and most or the original actors have moved on to other projects.

A better question is why is Wolfwood even in this. Not only the voice was off, but the whole character seemed bland and generic. I think this would have been much better without him.

(Also a huge Wolfwood fan.)

I agree with the last two people. I didn't really enjoy the change in voice actors (san Johnny Yong Bosch whom reprised Vash, arigato). I think the other characters had different voice actors because once Funimation puts out a project, they have a stable of the same people to do the voices for the project. I was really hurt when I put on the English dub option and found that Meryl and Milly voices were not the same. It even seemed like Kuroneko (the Black Cat) sounded different!

I can answer this... they wanted more money, they were told about the dubbing on very very short notice and FUNimation moved on without them. Lia Sargent, who played Milly in the series, was the only one that had 100% no chance of coming back. She retired from anime after reprising her role as Dorothy in Season 2 of The Big O and a bit part on Wolf's Rain back in 03.

Here is what Jeff Nimoy and Dorothy Fahn said about the situation...

"Sorry to the fans, I would have loved to play Wolfwood again and dub the Trigun movie, but Funimation dubbed it already without me. They called me and wanted me to fly myself out to Texas from Los Angeles and put myself up in a hotel while they paid me less than the original series paid. I would have lost money on the deal. Then when I asked for more money, they went ahead and replaced me. Pretty cheap, huh? I guess they don't care about the fans. Sorry, guys, I would have loved to play Wolfwood again, but remember, I'll always be the original! -Jeff Nimoy."

"Following is a letter from my fellow cast member of the English dub of the original Trigun series, Jeff Nimoy. It sucks that Funimation did this to both me (Meryl, original series) and Jeff. He posted it on animenews.com... (Insert Jeff Nimoy's post about being replaced)...Yup, in the midst of negotiating we suddenly got radio silence - and found out (from someone else!) that they went ahead and recorded it without us! I thought we were reaching a final compromise - apparently Funi did not. Anyway, sorry guys, I just had to spew! xoxo Dorothy Fahn (Melendrez)"
