Much better than it had any right to be

This movie is fantastic on many levels, not just as a dry comedy (though that's the best). I don't think it would take much for Ferell to lose the deadpanning and do real dramatic roles. The love scene with all the ass grabbing had me in stitches though. Really good send up of 70's films, in a way better than the Machete and other recent grindhouse efforts, seems like they understand exploitation movies better than Tarantino. It comes off *almost* serious and like we are just seeing it as funny because our culture is different than the 70's when this was supposedly made. Surprisingly strong plot development for a telenovella parody. They really pushed the dry in the 'dry humor' and it totally works. The only thing I think didn't work was the guy playing the american, every scene with him was a preachy one, though even that is true to the exploitation style.
