I'm probably in the minority (lol) but i like it!

Reminds of the spanish novelas i find so hilarious because of the exaggerated acting. Hopefully it doesn't cross a line and becomes offensive to anyone. But, its a comedy so my expectations are low...

I feel the same, and then completely opposite.

My wife and I thought it was funny. Stupid funny, but still funny and the other 10 people in the theater were all laughing just as much. We all enjoyed it.

Will Ferrel has once again mistaken stupidity for comedy....

Count me in. I'm probably more of that same minority. I knew about this movie since around November last year & I knew I'd want to see it. It was funny, & stupid at the same time, but not as stupid as Say for instance, Scary Movie, Hot Shots 1 & 2, any movie by Mel Brooks, or any comedy starring Leslie Nielson. Now those are flat out stupidy funny, but this one had a different sort of comedic feel to it.

In this case I like to be minority. And I proud to be a member of your club)))

Well good then. And as time has passed I've grown to appreciate this movie even more than I did when I saw it in the theater. I feel like watching it again now. I wonder if Netflix has it. Gotta go check now.

Well done, Will Farrell. Well done.

(& on a random note, yes, Genesis Rodriguez is freaking hot)

What a douche bag. Go ahead and enjoy your "intelligent" high brow comedy.

Just seen this in the UK (We've only just got it over here, and even then on a limited release) Really loved it, though I think it has been incorrectly marketed as a comedy. It isn't, it's more of a homage, a cinematic "seance" of the kind that is becoming increasingly popular, to Mexican pulp cinema of the 1970s. The look and musical sound of the film is spot on, and a lot of work has gone into that technically, a real labour of love. There are a few jokes here and there, but they look out of place in what is essentially a Mexican drama circa 1973 played straight. Even Will Ferrell, who has up-ended many a film with his over the top craziness, here actually gives what might be his first real dramatic performance, and in Spanish to boot! Of course a knowledge of the genre would be useful in understanding the film, which is where the problem lies. Being a film fanatic, and one who has Castillian as second language, I've managed to track down and watch a lot of those old time Mexican movies, and for all their technical and scriptwriting flaws, they are very watch able.I've always wondered what it would be like to see one in a cinema, and at least now I know (even though it is a fake Mexican pulp film) Only thing that spoilt the effect were the modern Chevy SUVs and Cars, but I guess they needed the money from product placement to complete it.

It's a good film, but its not really a comedy, hence most people's criticism that there are almost no jokes in it. Same problem as marketing "Hugo" as a magical children's film and "Sucker Punch" as a sexy all action fantasy adventure.

Agree. Great movie.

I usually like intellectual comedies but sometimes I just feel like watching something dumb for some a lot of laughs. There, I said it. I thought CdmP was hilarious, because I love over-the-top parodies. This reminded of "Black Dynamite" and how it was a perfect parody of the blaxploitation movies of the 1970s.

I'm sorry but I just had to post because of how funny I found your post. The guy above you posts a really informative and well thought out comment pertaining to the topic at hand and you just post, "it was good." Haha

This movie was funny. The review on the main page of the movie said the movie lacked jokes. I don't buy it. There were some scenes that had me laughing so hard. The whole point of this movie was to tell a story and show how Mexican cinema has shoddy and cheap editing. That was the bit the whole movie from missing scenes to horrible edits to dialogue that made no sense at all (and I speak Spanish), the over the top acting. This movie was a riot to watch.

The 2nd coming is upon us. No one will ever be the same again.

It had its moments, but overall I found it just too ridiculous. And I do enjoy Will Ferrel movies, I enjoy stupid, low brow humor...all that good stuff. But this just didn't work for me, I did enjoy some of the randomness of it, i.e. the scene towards the end where Raul is drinking and smoking even has he's being shot to sh!t. But a few funny scenes doesn't make a movie good, this one falls far short of its potential IMO. 5/10
