Season 2 isnt as funny

I don't know why... I think Karl looks less cared about what he does and does not do now. It feels more artificial than the first series.

Found the first series to be great, this just isn't as good imo...

I actually disagree, I think the "dolphin" episode was one of the funniest I have seen from both series, from the lady boys and the blind boxing, to the monkey nicking his monster munch.

The show has simply evolved, Karl isn't playing that idiot character that much, it might disappoint some people, but I think it is an improvement.

Space, the Final Frontier

It's either because Karl is a character or more likely the producers told Karl to act up.

He definitely seems far too "out of character" in series 2.

reply

I didn't like the first 2 episodes because it turned from a funny travelogue programme to a let's-make-him-do-things-he-doesn't-want-to-do show. I liked listening to his quirky views on the pyramids and all of the other 'wonders' because they are, for the most part, disappointing tourist traps and he said it as it was. In this series, they're just making him do outrageous things for the sake of it.

reply

I agree.

Season 2 is funny, but not as entertaining as season 1. I prefer the 'travelogue' format instead of a bucket list of random stuff... I guess I liked it more when it was more focused on a certain place and people.

I disagree, its on par with s1. I agree the show is much more Karl Pilkington centric but that's because AIA is world famous now. Also its' still very factual. I didn't know a tribe worshiped prince Phillip.

I don't like this season too much either.

I hate signatures

I totally disagree. I've found this season so much funnier than the original, and contrary to some of the other posts, I think Karl is actually being much more himself: he's laughing more, he's having a joke with Ricky, when he gets frustrated and angry you can see so clearly that he's upset, his fear is visceral - I think the whole of this season just feels much more satisfying.

Gorillas episode was an absolute blinder.

I love both series, and find the second season just as funny. Each time I watch an episode I'm laughing out loud through the whole thing.

I really hope they'd continue to make at least one more series after this because it's one of the few good things on TV in the UK these days (from what I read it also had some of the channels highest ratings?). I know it might be hard to come up with another concept like the 7 Wonders and Bucket List, but even if it's just Karl travelling somewhere I'd still love it. Maybe have Karl going places he wants to go, but still have the other 2 picking places for him to visit along the way.

I love Idiot Abroad 1 and 2, its the best thing on tv, Karl Pilkington is just brilliant, he is different class. I don't remember watching a tv programme that has made me laugh so much.
Amazing show!

I've only gotten to see 3 episodes here in the United States. In my opinion, it has gotten better with each episode in season 2. I didn't think much of the first one and liked last night's episode where he ends up in Thailand.
I think that season 1 had a lot of hits and misses as well. I think that it ended on the worst episode of the season in Peru (not including the review episode). But season 1 also had a couple of great episodes in Mexico and Egypt.

I definitely agree with the OP. Im kind of sad it took a wrong turn :(

Second season is better.

Couldn't agree more matt2828 ... I tried to like this show because I find RG very funny but KP really is an idiot who should stick to eating fish and chips in his little flat and not venture outside the wonderful suburb in which he lives. What an embarrassment to the human race he is.
