Pleasantly Surprised

Just saw the film and it was GREAT! This movie was not what I had expected. Initially, I thought it would have a poor storyline and bad acting, but it was neither. This storyline was not only great, but it had an excellent flow to it. I found myself laughing and in one scene, tearing up a little bit. Too bad there wasn't better promotional strategy, cause it should have done really well at the box office. Those kids could have visited high schools everyday and plastered posters up and down Crenshaw and La Brea to get more into the theaters. Also should have done a couple of promotions giving away free tickets. Better luck next time kids. The only negative thing I didn't like was the scene with the boys looking up the girl's skirts, while using a camera phone taped to a shoe. That ish was creepy and should have been edited out. And considering these girls were in high school, not cool at all. Anyway, I was impressed and my son is buying the dvd before Christmas to give out to a couple of his friends. He said it kinda reminded him of "The wood" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0161100/. Oh and it was nice to see Mario and his kids sharing the screen. That was touching.

Yeah I enjoyed the film too. Ew at the scene with the skirts.. too pervy! It was a great entertaining movie..great message besides all the crudeness it came with.. could have been a great family movie... Anyways, Mario van pebbles did an outstanding job. Looks like his kids will do great things in the movie business!

You pointed out the main flaw in this movie: that it tries at once to deal with heavy subjects via teens (racism, the future, politics, etc) yet also tries to cram in some crude teenage boy comedy that felt really out of place.

Had it kept the dramatic tone, and centered more on MVP's character & his son rather than his son's whole group of friends, it could have been up there with the wood (as the OP mentioned).

Instead it's just too poly-tonal to be considered a success in my opinion. The basis was there for a solid flick, just needed a bit more tightening of the script...

"dude i dont care i just love this movie you guys have a realy taste in movies what wrong with you"
