Patterson Question

It might've been explained or hinted but I'm not sure I got it. Is he in on the CounterPoint or not?

It seemed like he was in on it after he told Gabriel not to dig any deeper.
However at the end he seemed like he didn't know of Gatehouse+Honey's plan.
Is he just that shrewd that he outsmarted original CP team, or is it the fact that he genuinely doesn't know that they left him alone?
He also never seems to be in any danger while Gabriel's life always seems to be threatened...

He was part of it, Gatehouse mentions it to Gabriel just prior to his death

To be accurate he told Gabriel that most people only see the obvious connections and not the deeper network. But Patterson sees all of it and that is why he is such a dangerous person. He isn't in it for the fast track (i loved that metaphor). He isn't even IN the picture, but he knows how all runs and arranges everyone and everything around himself in a way that it all comes to a stop where all is well for him. The threatening of Gabriel also showed that he has his limits off sweet politness and evasive methods.
