*SPOILERS* Sad commentary on modern society.

The messages I came away from this series with are:

That it is futile to fight corruption these days.

That it's a 'grey area' for people to do corrupt, vile things as long as it benefits 'the good people'.

That for many people, there no longer is 'good' or 'bad'. The world has lost its moral direction.

Very depressing series.

It is indeed a very depressing series, but after all you are watching UK television. :)

Don't know where you're from, but British television in general has become quite downbeat (I exempt comedy obviously). But most mysteries/crime shows have become increasingly dark, gloomy, dreary, bleak...you name it they do it.

Sometimes it seems to me that UK shows just thrive on depressing stories populated with depressing people with depressing endings, investigated by a detective with a very good reason for being depressed.
This theme seems to be gleefully exploited.

Don't get me wrong, I kind of have a thing for gloomy British crime dramas and have seen more than I can count, but even I think it can be overdone. I've seen so many of them and sometimes you just wish the good guys would win.
