Very good film with some flaws

Now for the past couple of years, movies are very different for me to watch. While the quality of television shows increased massivly in the last decade, one can say the same went for movies but into the other direction.

From over the hundreds of movies that are filmed within a year, only a small number can really be considered good in my opinion.

Now I'm not a professional. I don't have an eye for good shots or what is considered outstanding acting. If I believe the actor to be a character then I'm satisfied. That being said: I overall enjoyed that movie pretty much.

At first I was bothered because Mark Strong and Antonio Banderas were in it (altough Mark Strong was the reason why I laid my eyes upon it). Both of them though suprised me in a very exciting way.

I don't know why this movie only got a 6.5 rating, but the rating systems seems pretty *beep* up lately, given TV shows easily 9.0s while solid movies barely reach beyond 7.5.

What bothered me though were a few points. First of all, was the accent. This is something that even drove me away from the games of "Assassins Creed". We have a story that takes place in a foreign land. Now we have two choices: we either let them speak the native language and dub it all over (worked in Passion of the Christ) or we let them speak english. But then there is the idiotic solution which is supposed to give the audience an exotic feeling. For me it just says: you are to stupid to realize that this is a foreign country so we give them exotic accents. Thanks for that.

Next thing was annoying clishees all over that film. The instant I saw brothers I knew that one of them will die. That his father will die was also one. When the protagonist was about to get killed in the end and his opponent got whacked right a second before he would have the chance to deal a death blow - who did it? The slave girl.

When they shot the protagonist during the movie and he really seemed dead I thought like "Wow... you guys really pulled a Ned Stark there".. aaaaaaand then it was just a clishee.

I really need to get started on watching real foreign movies. Hollywood is all over that film. Don't know how the book is. Still... very good movie.

I don't think the accents are really that much of a tragedy. In the first place, the actors convey their roles very well which I think helps brush over that. Also, Antonio Banderas character is something of an outsider within the film in terms of his greed governing him rather than principles so it helps mark his character. I also think the film has more appeal this way rather than giving the usual thick Arab accents we are so used to.
