So Arabs Pay to Hollywood to Insult Them ?!!

i don't *beep* understand how they did that !!
of course most of non-Muslims won't find any problem after watching the movie ( cuz what they saw matches what they learned about Islam & Arabs )
i'm not gonna list all the mistakes which they showed cuz simply i can't !!
but when they mentioned Taqiyya, i'm like okay ... i'm done with this sh*t

& if you gonna pay to Hollywood so they make a movie about u ( & in your land ) at least make it about the golden age of Islam while it was a dark age in Europe, not after the civilization broke & the Khilafah destroyed !!

pffff ... seriously i don't *beep* understand them !!

Dude, stop being so high and mighty, you have no idea what you're talking about.

If you would have bothered to research just a little bit, you would have seen that the director of this film is Jean-Jacques Annaud. He is French. This is NOT a Hollywood production. This is a European film, sponsored by Qatar, OK? Not everything that shimmers on the screen is made in Hollywood!

So what did you accomplish with your silly, childish outburst? If you're a Muslim or an Arab, you just made a fool of yourself with this hasty condemnation of the picture. You should at least be glad that every once in a while there comes a film that tries to be fair and doesn't automatically portray you as bad guys and wild-eyed jihadis! Us Westerners may be bad when it comes to stereotypes, but you guys aren't any better, either. And this film is a work of fiction - which is explained again and again on these forums, as well as in the end credits.

If you want to make a movie, nobody stops you from taking a camera, enlist some friends, and get to it. This would probably be a welcome change, and give you a more suitable way to vent your repressed anger - as opposed to more disgust and condemnation. Peace be with you!

Playitagainsam (Play As time goes by ), great reply!

By the way, I very much loved the movie, Jean Jaques Annaud is one of my favorite film makers, I absolutely loved The Bear, L'Amant, Enemy at the Gates, and 7 Years in Tibet.

Not sure what movie you saw but I didn't see any of that (of what you have described above)

I think it puts Americans in a worse light than this 'perceived' hate towards Muslims.

My take away was that Muslims are very religious; they hold family and honour, and even oral agreements above everything and anything. They're fierce warriors, and even though anything that has to do with oil is "evil", as leaders and champions of peace, they realize that when your family is thirsty, hungry, or otherwise, you gotta make some sacrifices in order to provide for them.

I don't see anything wrong with that.

For the record, I am catholic and can certainly appreciate their views on God, the world, and their unwavering faith in their religion through the darkest of times. Remember St. Peter? historically, we're the first to jump ship when the going gets tough LOL j/k

What I thought was insulting was the cliche driven dialogue...

First of all as a Muslim, I'm pleasantly surprised by the responses from non muslims and non Arabs, very well stated and relevant. You've said what I wanted to say and more. The point I would like to add is this: just because this isn't the movie you would like to see, don't be so short sighted and narrow minded. secondly, there are movies like that out there, what about kingdom of heaven? Watch that instead? And lastly, a movie like you describe would just end up being a one sided propaganda, the khilafa you refer to was in reality a backwards excuse for one in the end if its time, whether the Ottomans out moghuls or Al Andalus, in the end they failed because not only did they fail to progress into modernity, but were seduced by their wants and desires.

i agree with him.why would Americans or Europeans make a film on Golden era of Muslims, they would not show to world that the origin of new world, the progress and the basics of very Beginning of science was MUSLIM.

Didnt Americans make that movie when they made The Message, or are you talking about a bit after that? You do have the 13th Warrior, which shows the Arabs as enlightened, literate and diplomatic as opposed to the savage, illiterate and violent Vikings.

But aside from that, where is the conflict in Golden Age movies? Look at the periods that are commonly filmed when Westerners look at themselves. You have the American West, the Civil War, World War II, the Dark Ages, et cetera, not one of them could be considered a Golden Age. The closest you get to golden age movies are the ones about Hippies set in the 60's. They dont make too many of those.

Seriously, movies about bad times are just more entertaining, even Science ones. Would you rather watch a movie about Ibn Zarqala making Astronomical discoveries, building early clocks, and recieving praise; or would you watch a movie about Gallileo discovering astronomical secrets and having to dodge the Church because of his findings, being accused of Heresy among other fun things. There is simply more plot to the story set in hard times. You want to make a movie about Islamic science, make it about Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, then we can at least throw in some Mongols to spice it up a bit.
