Atrocious acting

Among other things... Mark Strong was the only saving grace in this ridiculous amateurish snoozefest.

reply

Agreed Mark Strong was amazing the rest were just embarassing!

any film with a leading role for Freida Pinto is always going to suffer and Antonio Banderas as an Arab?!

Mark Strong is always an excellent actor

Did you just call Tahar Rahiem a bad actor?

You probably don't even realise who he is . . .

reply

I know who he is (French is my second language). He was outstanding in 'A Prophet' but very weak here: it's common for actors who don't act in their native tongue...

reply

So then you know, that he is well-known for multi-lingual roles [he also spoke Scottish Gaelic in 'The Eagle.']

I've seen plenty of his interviews, and his English has come a long way since Prophet. He's pretty much fluent now, I imagine he's wishing to crack into US films.

reply

I'm not talking about his linguistic abilities, it's about him being credible while acting in a foreign language. It's the same with Antonio Banderas, Penelope Cruz, Audrey Tautou (and many others): they seem to act much better in their native language. That's all...

Dude! Everybody did a good job EXCEPT for that retard! I've seen better acting from actors in flicks that won the Razzie award! Everytime the camera turned to him his face was like stuck on stupid ..dafuq?? emotionless acting??

What's the problem with Antonio Banderas playing an arab? Hell, he might have some arab roots coming from Malaga. Is the accent the problem? A director does need some big names and the famous actors that can play an arab are not that many. The director might have gone for someone less famous perhaps, but still, who could do the job instead?

Isn't Mark Strong the saving grace in every movie he's in ?

Didnt Antonio play an Arab in 13th Warrior?

reply

Finally! someone with knowledge of films!

The 13th warrior wasn't anything spectacular either, but yes, he did 'reprise' an Arab role in this movie, and he wasn't bad either.

I still have no idea how you can drink under water, but that's another tale for a different time lol

TERRIBLE acting.

reply

You obviously haven't seen a lot of films if you thought this had terrible acting; it was decent acting with a great plot, stunning cinematography and wonderful music

"Cut it out! Cut it out!"

reply

The acting isn't bad at all. You are only saying that because of the accent everybody's using in this film, not to forget that most actors in Black Gold aren't native speakers of English. They could have opted for another language but then many would have missed out on this gem and there probably would be an American remake afterwards, or they could have just used Anglo-Saxon actors but then it would lose its authenticity and turn out as just another bland Hollywood adventure movie. I'd highly recommend you stick to movies of Anglo-Saxon origin only from now on if you thought this was atrocious.

reply

Its an epic film, and not everybody is Peter O´Toole.

reply

What he said. OP: bugger off.

reply

I blame the stupid Americans and Hollywood thinking that all Americans are stupid and can't read subtitled movies..This movie would have been much better if it was an Arab-speaking movie with english subtitles. This genre is not going to make tons of money like Transformers and Pirates of Caribbean but there are plenty of mature adults who find this topic interesting.

I thought the acting was great. I'm continuing fan of Mark Strong and Tahar Rahim and this film did not disappoint.

I'm not a big fan of Antonio Banderas but even here, he was good as Nesib.
