Mrs, Elton and her husband

I liked this movie, but I think the most powerful scene of all was that between Mrs. Elton (the landlady) and her husband, with Hester observing them in the background. A great illustration of what love really is and a great contrast to the relationship between Hester and what's his name.

LMAO Freddy.

Well not quite. What she says in full is: real love is wiping someone's arse when they've wet themselves and changing the sheets so they can keep their dignity. So in fact love is helping another maintain their dignity when they cannot do it themselves. This resonates a bit with Hester/William and Hester/Freddie. In each case the person who leaves do so to maintain a certain dignity, related to integrity. What Mrs Elton said was simple and profound.
Movement ends, intent continues;
Intent ends, spirit continues

That's not love. That's being human imho. Any other option is... well, I can't see any other one.
