I knew this show was gonna be a disappointment

Gosh who in the world is writing shows these days? Where are all the talented writers who have written and produced Black sitcoms from the 80s and 90s? Tracy and Malcolm have no chemistry at all, the kids are NOT funny and their timing sucks. And I am so sick and tired of the untimely laugh tracks! Lines that don't even require a laugh track gets a laugh track. I think "Let's Stay Together" is way better than this show. Can't wait for that to come back.

I have to agree. I had high hopes but was rather disappointed. Not sure, but the show seems too generic.

I was with the OP right up until the Let's Stay Together comment. But yeah you were right on about 'Reed'. The timing is off, the punchlines aren't there, the chemistry is off. I've often wondered why black shows took such an incredible nosedive since the 80s and 90s.

Watching it right now.. and I agree, what a bore.. Great shows of the past are long gone. I was watching an episode of the jeffersons this morning and I laughed my head off. This, not once at all.

they trying t o hard to be like cosby thats what it seems.

I think they should have gone with the cosby angle. Their timing is horrible. they are trying too hard to be sweet

It would be considered a bad show to those who are not used to seeing a black successful nuclear family. They do not put those on television. Everyone would rather see the father abusive, the kids unruly, and the mother rolling her eyes and shaking her neck! Ugh! Personally, I'm glad that they are showing another side of the black community that we can have successful careers and a wonderfully put-together family.

MovieJunkie789 you are retarded. Don't bring race into this. Ever since The Cosby Show people have been wanting another black sitcom just like that. My Wife And Kids was probably the last good one. I appreciate Malcom Jamal Warner trying to bring the sitcom vibe that he was a part of to today's generation, but this show just plain sucks.

There are no people that aren't used to seeing a normal black family on television and that has nothing to do with the hate on this show. It's the writing, plain and simple. I was excited to watch this cause I knew they were obviously trying to go for a Cosby Show inspired sitcom, but the writing is bad. Nothing, and I repeat NOTHING, was funny in the pilot. That's all I can really say. This show is just not funny at all. And I think it's because the writers are focusing too much on getting the message across that they're a smart and successful, black family and not focusing enough on the comedy.

Amen lilej2!!! That's exactly what I'm saying..this has nothing to do with wanting to see an unruly family..heck I grew up in a two parent household in a nice home with my sibilings, and appreciate quality television, so why would I get joy out of seeing all that overly ghettofied stuff? I just want to see some good writing for once dang! It doesn't make any sense with all the talented writers out there that these ones produce such weak material. Gosh, where's Debbie Allen?? This show needs someone with her expertise..

reply

I kinda agree with you...except the part about Let's Stay Together. That's show is horrible. And I don't wanna make this about race. But I'd rather see "not so good" black sitcoms than "no" black sitcoms. And guess what...there are some horrible white sitcoms out there that have been on for YEARS! Personally, I hate The Simpsons and Family Guy, to name just a couple. Black actors need work too.

Once again, race has nothing to do with this show's lack of writing. And you talk about that there's some bad white sitcoms too yet you didn't even mention one. You mentioned 2 of the best cartoons on tv

I watched couple of this and BLAH BLAH BLAH, no wonder BET has been crappy channel for over 11 years. I know TV one would never play this show and I'm a huge fan of TV One and all Black Shows from 70s/80s/90s. I'll say "Everybody Hates Chris" was probably the only 1 best black shows that came out after the 90s. Besides other thing I don't like and not used to nowadays on Shows like this are people constantly on Cell Phones, Laptops, worst of all is that they even talk about "FACEBOOK" Uggghhhhh!! I'm old school so I find it not funny and interesting at all. We need old-school Actors back.

Here are REAL Black Shows: Sanford & Son, The Jefferson's, Roc, Benson, Good Times, What's Happening, That's My Mama, Family Matters, A Different World, Cosby Show, Malcome & Eddie, Martin, The Wayan Bros, Hangin' With Mr Cooper, Thea, In Livin' Color, Soul Food.

Don't get me wrong, I'll give this show an credit for bringing an positive Black Shows around to help make a change to struggle black communities because they need it badly, especially on BET Channel while they still playing same ol' Drama-violence movies on BET Cinema.

I didn't think this show was going to be good mainly because IMO Traci Ross is not a good fit for Malcolm as a married couple. It's good to see a positive show like this but it needs funnier lines. They all seem to over act and it sounds so rehearsed like they're trying too hard, it doesn't come off as being natural.

I tried to watch a couple of episodes but it's just so boring and uninteresting. They could use better writers.

It is not like the Cosby show at all IMO. Now that was a good and funny show.

Miss those days of shows like that.
