They should show Alex at work

We only see Alex in the home, I think it'd be nice if he resumed his career as a full time professor and we see him at work.

If both Tracee and Malcom are the stars of the show, they should get equal screen time and currently we see way more of Tracee.

And why on earth is Alex the twins' step-father?!
I don't think making him their step father adds anything to the show, if anything it takes away from the show. The should have just made him their father.

And while I'm critiquing...
They need new kids! Who on earth did the casting?! I'm curious who else auditioned for the roles and how these got through. Well, "Keenan" is okay.

I absolutely agree. Alex is suppose to be what an online NYU college professor? What the heck does that have to do with anything? As well as having him be the twins stepfather, it would make better sense if he was their biological father and have a character actually appear on the show as the wife's ex husband. Also, the kids are terrible actors, or maybe it's just poor writing. The whole show needs a make over. I want to see it succeed, but I doubt it.

it may be a bit over critical about the step dad thing. i don't see the big deal with it. people have step fathers. it's not a huge leap from reality. what stereotype is being solified exactly? the twins have 2 fathers which i think is cool and it happens.

My thoughts.

Having the character being an online professor I believe, is different and progressive considering that this option is widely available now for individuals to get an education. I understand though how it might not translate well. Maybe they will revisit that area, but it's not necessarily a detraction for me. I think when he was homeschooling the youngest, it synthesized a bit better.

One issue that really bugs me and I agree with the OP, was making Alex the step-father. When I initially saw the promos, I was excited and umder the impression that it was going to be a married couple with their own biological children. I still don't understand why they decided to do it like this. I guess for the introduction of some sort of drama *shrugs.*

The show has potential and is getting better, but something does seem off. I don't know if I would have cast MJW as the dad. Tracee is fine for me. I love her lol. The kids are a bit annoying lol.

I do love that they are very loving and calm. I don't want to see drama and foolery.

The step-parent angle is an achilles' heel for me, but I am hanging in there to try and give the show a chance.

I was thinking they did the step-parent angle to maybe perhaps show that divorced families can still get along, since the real dad is in La and they're in NY. I am glad they do show the real dad and that though he has his faults he seems to have been a decent father to them. The only thing that kind of bothers me is that the twins call MJW dad. I have a friend that calls her step-dad dad but that's because he's been in her life pretty much from birth. If I'm correct they have been married for 7 years so the twins would have been 7 or 8 at the time, I wouldn't think they would have started calling him Dad. But that could just be me. But none the less I am enjoying the show. The first few eps were kind of corny but its growing on me.

@BrunoPonceJones,

I agree with your point regarding the step-parent angle. I know that a large segment of the population has a step or blended family aspect to it but is typically not so well-functioned. Personally, I am just over the whole step-family thing. There are black married couples with their own shared children stil out there and would be nice to see. I totally agree with you too regarding the kids calling MJW dad. I was confused by that when they referred to their bio-dad as dad as well. Since they are keeping him the picture and he is not dead or absent, they probably should have done something else in that regard. Yeah, I think the twins were pretty young when they got together. I am enjoying it also; it had to grow on me too.
