It's ok

I don't hate the show at all. It features two well educated black parents in their middle class life. I love that in the respect that these are the types of shows that tv and the media should portray blacks. I'm so sick of blacks being portrayed as poor, ghetto and ignorant, it's awkward for me and my friends to watch together. However, the creators could've put more thought into this show. It's boring, nothing 'flavorful' is incorporated in this show. Both the parents seem dry and boring. I don't know if it's the people playing the parts or the same ol' boring script of parents raising their kids, which have been done to death. This show seems like Theo Huxtable's character mixed with a more pulled together Joan Clayton's character all grown up raising a family. Both characters were powerful in their show, but with no drama, they're duds.

Also, can't they think of any other prestigious occupations besides doctors, and even lawyers for that matter. It's like the only way to be educated and high class is if you're a doctor or a lawyer. Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable were the only black couple on TV that I know that played it off well.

I would even appreciate it if they were just normal blue collar workers like the rest of us, who just were classy and sophistocated. You don't have to be 6 figures a year making people in order to be classy and sophistocated. At least I would be able to relate to it a bit more.

I agree. It's great that it's a positive show, but its primary purpose is to entertain. The Cosby Show was very entertaining. And I totally agree. Seems like every black show needs to have a main character being an attorney or a doctor. There are PLENTY of other professions. At least Theo is a professor.

Yeah, but most Black sitcoms or movies seem to have Blacks as lawyers or doctors now. I mean look at Tyler Perry's movies. Most of his movies always have the main character in one of those professions.

I like shows like "Family Matters", because at least they had the parents holding down other professions, a Police Officer and a Elevator Operator later Head of Sales at a department store.

You don't have to be a doctor or lawyer to have success.

Well in this shows defense, her profession does tie in a lot with the stories. That's why its called "Reed Between The Lines" kinda like figuring it out (psychology). Plus, each episode deals with a new patient, so they just didn't throw the fact that she's a doctor in here just to make her seem like she is "successful".

OMG I absolutely loved Family Matters. They need to make more shows like that.

It was a fun family sitcom with down to earth characters. Even Steve Urkel. Lol
