saves the movie! She was great. I loved her performance, and was pleasantly surprised, at how realistically they handled the alcoholism. Her performance was very natural and subdued.
The lesbian sister was also pretty well acted.
The rest? Not so much.
If you see her name in the cast, you know that at least some of it will be good.

It was a surprised to see her in a role like this. I really liked her in the movie. I don't follow her career, but I thought she always played serious roles. I would love to see her do more comedy's. It was also refreshing to see her as the "mom", black movies tend to use the same older female actresses again and again.
