tHEy should not have had Elam come back in season 4.

He had a good ending in season 3 with him going to fight for his friend and dying from a Bear attack. Sure I would have preferred he had gone out guns a blazing trying to save Cullen, but how they ended season 3 would have been better than the mess we got in season 4. They give him an entire episode in season 4 just focused on his recovery, then in the very net episode he is an insane person who gets killed at the end of the episode. What a waste. If that is what they were going to do, should have left him dead. Instead of him dying heroically to save his friend, he gets killed by his friend after going insane. Mistake by the show runners.
