Wes Anderson

It felt like it was trying to be a Wes Anderson film - the whole "quirky, dysfunctional family" thing.

It also seemed like a composite of a load of other films where a New Yorker falls on hard times, returns to their hometown and learns a valuable lesson. I'm not sure what this adds to the genre. I really wanted to like this. Disappointing.

I now really want a pet hermit crab, though.

It has Avery good cast that ultimately doesn't do much because the film doesn't do much. It has all of the elements for serious drama, quirky fringe, dark comedy, social commentary, but all of it is left on the table.

I enjoyed the film, but I think it was more because of its unusual choice of location of Ocean City, NJ which holds a special place in my heart.
