Was the series trying to make Julian/Hanna happen?
In a way it sort of seemed like it. They seemed to have some chemistry in the one scene they shared together.

Yes, I remember reading that Julian was supposed to have a crush on Hana. I don't know if she was supposed to like him back, but it seemed like she decided she was going to marry Fred. So maybe there was going to be some sort of love triangle?
I do know that the reason they decided not to make Julian Lena's love interest was to focus on Lena/Alex and their 'epic love'.
I do think the pilot failed on that aspect, though. Lena and Alex's relationship felt more like 'insta-love'. I know that's because they crammed the whole first book into one episode, but the thing I liked about the books was that the romantic relationships felt real. They developed slowly.
However, we don't know what their plans for the next episodes were. Maybe they would have slowed things down after episode one.
