Toni and Roc

I LOVE the fact Toni can hear and talk to Roc. IMO, this makes for a more interesting dynamic than the treatment in the American version (Dash and Charlie, who have no interaction whatsoever). It makes Roc more than just the narrator for the series; he's actually an active character. I love the episode where the group sneaks away at night, and "bring" Roc along on their adventure by giving him a walkie-talkie, so that Toni can communicate with him and convey what he's saying to the rest the of the group. There's nothing like that in the American version.

But is Toni's ability to communicate with Roc ever explained? Do the doctors ever find out? Is it explained scientifically? Or in a spiritual/religious way? Or are we just supposed to assume that because Toni has Asperger's that his mind operates differently?
