Does no one else think...?

The campy plot, all the coincidences, etc. were deliberately put in? I JUST finished watching it, and I took it as trying to evoke a Bruce Campbell style B-movie, both to embrace Bruce and the Sam Axe character, as well as distancing it from the tone of "Burn Notice." Not that "Burn Notice" is supposed to be taken super-seriously, but this felt more like "Alien Apocalypse" (if anyone has seen that Bruce Campbell gem) than the show we've been seeing for four years, and I thought it was a good and appropriate way to go. Just my opinion :)

Thank you, I thought it was fun and I don't get all these negative posts about how awful it was. It wasn't supposed to be Saving Private Ryan, it was just a campy little movie about the comic relief character in Burn Notice.

Exactly... it's a TV movie, fer Christ's sake. Pump another 10 mil into it and you'll get what you paid for. I actually enjoyed it as much, if not more, than the first episode of Burn Notice - season 5, and probably a few others before that! So... quitcherbitchin, or go to Hollywood... Florida that is, and do it yourself! Or, just shutup! Why people come into here and piss and moan about how BAD a movie or show is... don't like it?... tell your dog! You like it?... say so. You find a goof or have a question?... THAT is what message boards are for... not to vent because you think you wasted 2 hours of your life. Well... you just wasted 5 minutes of mine, so there! Do what I do... read these boards... then download the damn thing. TV is so yesterday! As Jack Sparrow would say... pirate.

I think so cameron-wookie. I don't know if they were going for a B-movie feel, but it was certainly written/directed to have a Bruce Campbell feel to it. After all, most people I have talked to (including myself) only started watching Burn Notice because of Bruce. This film proved that Matt Nix, Jeffrey Donovan and Bruce all know what most of the audience wanted. It wasn't too silly, but it wasn't serious at all. I think the opening in which Bruce and his escorts couldn't get through the gate, and then got lost once inside pretty much set the tone for the whole film, event, or whatever you want to call it.

While Burn Notice can get serious at times, Sam Axe is usually not. He has had his serious moments, but everybody fell in love with the character for his carefree attitude, comic relief, and impressive collection of Hawaiian shirts. So I think they set out to capture the spirit of the character, yet put him in a situation serious enough to make us care about the outcome. It might not work for everybody, but I don't think Bruce Campbell fans were disappointed.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Exactly. Michael Westen is "When you're a spy, people are always trying to kill you" - and that's the tone of Burn Notice.

Sam Axe is "You know spies - bunch of bitchy little girls." And that's the tone of this movie.

I love the movie. It plays to Campbell's strength as a comic actor and show's both Sam's irreverence and his heart. I just watched it for the third time earlier this morning. I just happened to turn on the TV at 2 AM, and there it was, so I watched it again. It's been a while since I last saw it, and I wouldn't want to sit and watch it through twice in a row now, but I sure did enjoy it.

Of course I enjoy pretty much any appearance of Bruce Campbell. I always say to that to me, even when he's a bit player, he's worth the price of admission all by himself.

I mean, I'd go see him if he were, say, playing just an annoying theatre usher.

I know this is an old post, but I finally got around to watching this tv movie. I thought it was great and enjoyable. As far as campy plot coincidences, etc. being deliberately put in, the main plot of the story was basically ARMY OF DARKNESS. If they revealed at the end that he was really Ash, I wouldn't have been surprised. Even a lot of the dialog was lifted from the EVIL DEAD series.

I thought this was pure Bruce, which equals pure entertainment.
