In that order, not sure about a 4th, but these 3 are my Hardcore choice. How do you use the flamethrower effectively? Everytime i tried on DS1 the first necro i thought no chance with this weapon.

reply

I love the flamethrower and found it to be super effective against most necromorphs and is my go-to weapon against the pregnant necros and the little facehugger necros(but then again I'm only playing on Normal and it's maxed out).

It's not effective from long range, against Brutes, or the regenerating Necromorph at the end though.

plasma was the most used, pulse rifle because of it's ALT fire grenade launcher and detonator for large rooms to cover my ass!!!

Just Plasma Cutter and Contact Beam. I don't like carrying too many weapons because then the ammo you pick up is divided across those three or four weapons, as opposed to just having a 50/50 split for two weapons.

It does not work like that.
First playthrough I ONLY used the plasma cutter, didn't even buy any other weapon, nevermind equip any of them...but I still kept picking up ammo for everything else.

reply

It does, in a certain way. Because even if I carry four weapons, I still favor one or two as my primaries and the other two are for specific situations. Because the ammo you pick up is distributed evenly to these four weapons, I feel I lack enough ammo for my primaries, while I still have excess ammo for my secondaries. When I carry three or four weapons I find myself having to use my secondary weapons more often than I'd like simply because I don't have enough ammo for my primaries. By carrying one or two weapons, yes there is still a portion of unwanted ammo types, but most importantly I have enough ammo to consistently use my two main weapons. Extra weapons may excel in specific situations, but I feel that their inclusion in a load-out detracts from the use of my all-purpose main weapons.

i dont see how any of you guys can use the FT, i tried in DS1 and got decapitated, literally, but ill give it another try, the line cutter in my opinion is by far the best weapon , it will bring down any enemy, all you need is fairly accurate aiming, i found the force gun to be ALOT LESS effective then in the first but still fun to use, and of course the contact beam is a must for any boss-like creature! DS2 was insane cant wait for the third!

Plasma cutter
Javalin gun
Pulse rifle (Great against the pack)
Contact beam (One hit kill in deep Sh!t moments)

I also like the Ripper on alt mode. great for dismemberment when maxed out for damage.

Don't read this! Too late, you're cursed...

The Ripper ABSOLUTELY needs more love. Just like the first game... it annoyed me 'till I worked out the quirks. Just like the first game, it's a devastating weapon against most necros in the game, and an absolute dream when it comes to conserving ammo.

Primary fire is the key. Again, it's useless against any fighting that's not close-range... but once you get the range of it right and figure out the right way of sweeping the blade across the enemy, you can dismember several necros into death with a single round. Combined with stasis, this is a lifesaver. Against the mobs of those little kids, it's completely gratifying to swing that blade across the mob of 'em and watch them all get cut down within a second.

Just plan accordingly. Leapers can own you without stasis involved, and anything that explodes will probably murder you. I just finished on Survivalist (my very first playthrough) with only the Ripper, Pulse Rifle, and the go-to Plasma Cutter. Considering Hardcore after another round - gotta get more familiar with things.

Totally agree! The Ripper is definitely a specialty weapon and is most effective when you've got enemies coming at you from all sides with little time to react. I didn't bother with it initially, preferring the Line Gun and Pulse Rifle, but once I figured out how to effectively use it, I loved it.

DS1
Plasma Cutter
Line Gun
Contact Beam
Ripper (but didn't like it's length extending on upgrades as the killing range was useless as soon as the necromorph got closer).

DS2
Force Gun (secondary fire is awesome on this)
Flamethrower (gotta cook those kids, also liked the moment the necromorph is dead, the item pops up so you know when to stop and conserve fuel)
Javelin (loved it taking care of the Uber morph in one hit using secondary)
Plasma Cutter

Honorable mention to Kinesis, which seemed a lot more effective for killing in DS2 for me. But the last few times I've played either game I'm maxed out on upgrades so it's not that hard.
