Tip to possilbe viewers: Ignore the rating

I just watched this on Starz! On-Demand. I was prepared to bail on it if need be. But... this movie was the funniest movie I've seen since "Super Troopers." And the clip of the innkeeper at the end sealed it.

Literally, in 10 years I have not seen a movie that made me laugh that hard, that frequently.

And now after seeing the IMDb rating (currently at 4.3/10) I'm asking myself, "What movie did I just see then?!"

I don't often like comedies. I've got no use for "Superbad," "40 Year Old Virgin," "Kick-Ass," "Tropic Thunder," "Old School," etc. I didn't like American Pie, not even back when it was "okay" to like American Pie. And similar movies like "Sex Drive" and "Bart Got A Room" miss the mark with me as well.

I honestly don't understand why the rating is so low. It's really too bad because I'm someone who uses IMDb as one tool to seek out good movies to watch. Makes me wonder what I've been missing.

BTW, I'm not a plant (But if you're hiring...! $$$) and I'm no Will Ferrel disciple... just someone who's happy to have ignored their instincts.

Agree. Sucks that ppl voted without even watching.

All except the movies you listed. I love all of those movies except I never saw Bart got a room. The rest are some of my favorite comedies, especially 40 yr old virgin and Old School. And +1 for Sex Drive which I also think is severely underrated.

I have to arch my eyebrow at you not liking Superbad and don't think it was the funniest movie ever, but I agree with the rest of your post. It's pretty good but it get's savaged by people who didn't like the title, the premise, or the trailer and I think haven't actually SEEN the movie. People bitch about comedies that are about teens losing their virginity. But that's a universal and timeless concept. Why? Because we all go through it.

the rating is low because it's like a low-budget handheld cam version of this type of movie. you complain about this but didnt like american pie and superbad? what's wrong with you? jk

this movie is worth watching for the really cute girl who played nicole though. and the carwash fundraiser scene maybe. other than that, definitely couldnt buy into the whole nicole being with the lead guy.

"Kick-Ass" is not a comedy. It's one seriously bad-ass action flick. Pathetic marketing misled the public into thinking it was some screwball comedy.

I saw this movie on DVD with a couple of friends, and about 15 min. into it we thought that the movie was almost over. We all kept watching it thinking it would get better and it didnt. Im surprised the rating is that high.

I have to respectfully question your taste in movies if you like this thing more than the other ones you mentioned, especially Superbad and 40 Year-Old Virgin. At best, this was a valiant experiment of a relatively new genre--the "found footage," hand-held movie. They get an A for effort, but a C- for the final product, and I think I'm being generous.

Some things in the film work, some things don't. The lead actor and character is compelling, but none of the other characters resonate. The chubby kid, Zach, who is supposed to be cool and world-wise, especially when it comes to women, is totally unbelievable. It's hard to believe that girls his age would give him the time of day. Nicole, the object of the lead, Matt's affection is not likeable and you really wonder what he actually sees in her. She's attractive enough, but we don't see her enough to care about her. The other "characters" are utterly forgettable. And I guess humor is in the eye and ear of the beholder because the laughs were few and far between, unlike the other films you mentioned, which were laugh-out-loud funny.

I think the rating this movie got is fair.

Sister, when I've raised hell, you'll know it!
