I had the same thoughts! And it's funny as I watched Amour day before and my boyfriend for some reason wanted to see Volcano yesterday without knowing story line. Too similar!
Haneke did not steal any ideas from this film.
Volcano premièred at Cannes in May 2011.
Amour premiered in Cannes in May 2012.
Amour was filmed from 7 February 2011 to 8 April 2011. Before Volcano even premiered so Haneke could not have seen it prior to writing his script and actually filming.
