A little like 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'

I frequently enjoyed writer Marieke Hardy's satirical wit in her "Green Guide" TV reviews, and I think this show is a potential vehicle for that also.

The character Roo in "Laid" is rather like Larry David from "Curb Your Enthusiasm". A relatively normal or uneventful start to the day or week becomes progressively worse as toes are stepped on inadvertently and enemies are made as misunderstandings develop. Roo, like Larry, regrets past actions and feels somewhat out of step with the world. Although Larry is happily married, he has occasional sexual misadventures/misunderstandings, which according to some reviews of Laid is something kind of central to Roo's life as a single woman.

This comedy has some funny lines, but not nearly as hilarious as CBYE for the reason that the conflicts don't seem as intense or ridiculous or verbose but rather more subdued. Maybe this has something to do with Aussie sensibilities versus American experiences - maybe it's just Larry David. :)

I'm looking forward to the second episode as I follow the show via the podcasts.

Actually this show reminds me more of Ricky Gervais' Extras. The awkwardness of the main character, the strange asexual relationship she has with the IT guy at work, and so on.
